He probably didn't make any investments in real estate or legit businesses to keep the income stream coming. A few racketeering trials can drain any money buried in the backyard. At least he's doing his time in Florida instead of some freezing shithole in the Midwest.
That's exactly right. He didn't have any long-term investments and/or real estate except for a modest house in Yonkers. And he always had more power than he had money.
His entire family lives down there now, even his first wife, mostly around Boynton and Delray. It's still a three-hour drive through Deliverance Land, but it's better than getting on a plane once a month. Plus, they always spent a lot of time in Florida anyway.
