Folksinger/activist Ronnie Gilbert died yesterday at the age of 88.

NY Times obituary

She originally gained fame (along with the late Pete Seeger) as a member of The Weavers, a pioneering folksinging group that formed in 1948.

Two legends in the world of folk music have passed within a week: Jean Ritchie, and now Ronnie Gilbert. Very sad.

Ronnie Gilbert was on my list.

"For me, there's only my wife..."

"Sure I cook with wine - sometimes I even add it to the food!"

"When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies?"

"It was a grass harp... And we listened."

"Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? Every, every minute?"

"No. Saints and poets, maybe... they do some."
