What's even more laughable is that both the President and the current mayor of Baltimore used the term, correctly...and were forced to backtrack or apologize.

I may be a little old, White and out of touch. But I hate to break the news to everyone. The negative term thug (for a criminal type of ANY color or ethnicity) predated Tupac (who, to his credit, put a positive spin on it) by quite awhile.

I think people who loot, riot and steal fit the exact definition of a thug. So fuck that. Call the protestors, protestors, because there are people out there being peaceful and exercising a constitutional right. But those people looting and throwing rocks at officers? Yeah those are thugs

Like I said, the word has been around forever. It's a blanket term for criminal types of all kinds. Cops have used it since forever. And it never had anything to do with Black or White until the Hip-Hop era. This is just more politically correct nonsense. But it's so ridiculous that I think it could blow over.

I agree completely. I'm saying it's important to make a distinction between thugs and protestors. But Obama and the mayor should not have had to backtrack on a statement that was true. The people destroying Baltimore right now are by every definition thugs.

Thug element always overshadows the citizens who are protesting. Happened in Ferguson and happening on a bigger scale in Baltimore.


The story behind the story, that nobody in media is examining is that the person who called out the use of the word thug...(and indirectly the use of the word by the mayor) is a member of the Baltimore city council. It's politics...he called her out indirectly, she issued an apology....he scores political points for humbling the mayor.
