You're right DixieMafia, the media did have some fun with him. He was indeed great. I saw him in Miami once and he was very approchable and a real gentleman. He is still my all time greatest quaterback. I see what you mean about Coach ryant, he would have never tolerated that. Did you ever hear anything about him partying all night with two ladies the night of the Super Bowl?

I've heard some rumblings about him partying all night the night before, not sleeping, then showing up and doing what he done. I don't know how he did it. lol

Dixie good point my friend joe willie had insane quickness and mobility in his first two yrs at bama..they said in the doc that if he had the injuries toDay w advances in medical technology he would have healed fine from acl surgery and would likely have been able to keep his running style.

Curious about the article connecting tramunti to namath..it said at the time in 1969 he was the Lucchese boss..was he official boss or.acting for ducks corallo?

I wonder also if joe had any connection to Pittsburgh mob guys since I think beaver falls is outside of pitt? Total guess but any insight?

There was a "Bachelors III" in Ft. Lauderdale too.

For the few years it was open it was THE place to be seen. They brought in name acts all the time and it was definitely a gangster hangout.

For those of you who know South Florida it was right on Sunrise Blvd. Just down the street from Holiday Park.

I was just a young kid taking music lessons back then , but all my teachers played there. I heard so many stories about all the hoods that used to hang there, but it was just a little before my time.

dixiemafia, that's true he always had the respect of his teammates, I think because the media made him out to be something he wasn't.

he wasn't a selfish ballplayer, like some today. he started out making 27,000 a year, and he admitted in his book he was never the big playboy they made him out to be.

in his book Bryant said his most loved player was pat trammel.and the best he ever coached was Leroy Jordan.

a lot of myth in Namath, he only had one great year. bart starr played at Alabama, and as a pro led a dynasty.

Namath was good but, like I mentioned mostly myth.

my opinion
