Buy a tablet. A good one, though. Best of both worlds. It doesn't even have to be an iPad. You can grab an 8 or 9 inch ASUS or Samsung for less than $200 when they're on sale.
Best part is, you can get a plan that suits your needs. When you're at home, you use your own Wi-Fi to save on the data charges.
