Any Chicago guys ever hear of Joel "the bookie" Glickman? Saw some articles that he did time in the 70s and paid tax to Frank C. He got subpoenaed to testify during Family Secrets and did time for refusing. Curious on additional information. Seemed to be a career bookie,

Long time bookie. originally from the north-west side (Schiller Pk, Des Plaines) later Highland Pk. Learned from his uncle Gerald also a long time bookie.
Joel's father (Gerald's brother) was a mob connected fight promoter named Bernie Glickman.
Milwaukee Phil choked Bernie over a dispute concerning the Clay-Terrell fight. Shortly thereafter, he went down to the feds. His testimony started a Grand Jury investigation into rackeering in the boxing industry.
They put a contract on him but he got it cancelled after Roemer set up a meet between Glickman and Accardo. Apparently, Glickman promised not to rat out Tony and he called the contract off.

Wow thanks for the info. Didn't know all the family backstory there. Do you know if he's still active on any level, I know he recently got out of jail within the last few years for his refusal to testify during Family Secrets

Joel Glickman was never really a Mob Associate in Chicago, at least in regards to the Associate/Soldier model in Chicago. He was an independent bookmaker in the North and Northwest suburbs with a higher end clientele that paid the mob street tax for the privilege to operate.

In the 1970s, he paid the tax to the Cicero crew, but unknown as to what branch (Ferriola, Infelise, Carlisi, who knows). Sometime in the 1980s he started to pay the mob street tax to 26th Street (the Calabrese crew).

He did end up testifying against Frank Calabrese Sr. after spending a week in jail. He did not testify as to any evidence against the other defendants because he the only defendant he had met was Calabrese.

He is now in his late 70s and has not run book for years, since at least the mid to late 1990s, well before Family Secrets.

Glickman was also the bookie that got caught taking bets from guys working for the Chicago Bears front office - like the team's marketing director and head of operations both lost jobs I believe. This was late 90s I want to say - a lot of talk about it because they had inside info.

Curious how things work.
I hadn't thought about this fight for years until this thread reminded me.

Not long before I wrote this Ernie Terrell died.
