so i read this somewhere some time ago: Don Carlo was watching a baseball game in basement in his massapequa home. got hungry and went to the kitchen to cook some pasta. suddenly he dropped dead.
is that story true? thanks. THat's the story widely circulated but it's probably not true. Don Carlo had his heart attack on October 15th. There was no Yankee game being played that day.

pb, you might appreciate this story - Gambino was waked at a funeral home near his house in Brooklyn. It was a weekend (I THINK it was Saturday night) and my ex and I had some company come over to our apartment. Our guests were from out of town and wanted to try some authentic Brooklyn Italian food so I and my guy friend went out to get some food while the ladies stayed in the apartment. I drove to Carolina Restaurant in Coney Island - about a ½ mile from the funeral home. The restaurant was absolutely mobbed (no pun intended) so we went over to Spumoni Gardens, a short distance away, to find it even more crowded there. All because of the mourners in the neighborhood. Ended up getting Chinese food back in Midwood. That's a GREAT story, and obviously very familiar to me because it never fails. When you have a high profile funeral (or any "big" funeral, for that matter), every gin mill within a short radius of the funeral home gets busy. You can set your watch by it. And to be honest, years ago most of the small, cozy, family owned funeral parlors would steer their mourners in the direction of certain bars and restaurants. Sometimes for a price, of course .

cusimano and russo funeral home , both owners were made...west 6th ave S...all the gambino family wakes went to them. torregrossa funeral home was blacklisted by the gambino family in the late 60's he also was a made guy in the gambinos, he was put on the shelf.. Yeah, I was gonna mention that, Bronx. They named the Doctor on "The Sopranos" Cusimano. I always thought that was deliberate. Scarpaci's also did a million wiseguy wakes over the years. LaBella, too. The LaBellas were with Ducks' guys .

This one book on famous deaths said Gambino died on the floor after having a heart attack just as the OP said. It said he decided to make some spaghetti while watching the game but dropped dead in his basement. Of course the same book said Gambino was Vito Genovese's underboss so that should tell you what the author knew about Gambino and how little fact checking he must of did. . https://books.google.com/books?id=oKPy-RAh3O8C&pg=PA6

charles labella on harway, that is correct, tony scarpaci the father and son tony were with the west side so was the biz , the other son robert was with the colombo's got chased and switched to the gambinos..all the grandsons wound up around george deccio, they did and do the most wakes now in bath beach for every family They have the livery on Harway, too. A lot of funeral equipment. When Gotti died they were calling all over for flower cars. They ended up having cars come down from North Jersey because there just aren't that many funeral homes that use flower cars anymore. Some of the old Italians, and the Chin*ks are big on them also. But other than that you don't see them too much anymore. Gotti's funeral was absurd. It was pre-arranged at Papavero in Maspeth for years because they thought they could keep it quiet on that side of Queens. Yeah, right lol.

not a huge wiseguy turnout though. No, but a lot of groupies showed up. They should have used Romanelli's. They do a much better job of keeping the hangers on out of the building during services like that. That's where his kid was laid out if I remember right.

THat's the story widely circulated but it's probably not true. Don Carlo had his heart attack on October 15th. There was no Yankee game being played that day. some movies depicted Don Carlo died in his bed, also the priest said he died in a state of grace in his bed. so this is probably the right version?
