Looks like this is a follow up of the Pagano bust... Rockland gambling crackdown leads to raids: DA Steve Lieberman December 2, 2014The Rockland District Attorney's Office continued its assault on organized crime-backed gambling with more than a dozen arrests on Tuesday. The 14 suspects surrendered to face face multiple felony charges, culminating a 16-month investigation into a a multi-million dollar monthly sports betting operation that stretched from Rockland to New York City, Bergen County in New Jersey and Florida, officials said. The ring took bets on professional football, basketball, baseball and college sports, Rockland District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said. "The defendants are accused of operating an incredibly lucrative gambling operation – taking in millions of dollars a month," Zugibe said. "Such unlawfully earned profits are commonly diverted to more insidious criminal enterprises. "In fact, the investigation uncovered evidence that the enterprise had links to organized crime." Those arrested, who range in age from 27 to 74, are charged with promoting gambling, possession of gambling records, and money laundering, among other offenses, Zugibe said. Investigators seized more than $3 million dollars in cash and other properties during the investigation, which included about 60 court-authorized search warrants in New York, New Jersey and Florida, Zugibe said. Authorities noted gambling is not a victimless crime since the participants use threats and violence to collect debts and charge illegal interest rates on money owed. Clarkstown Police Officer Peter Walker said numerous people were being fingerprinted and processed at police headquarters in New City. All those arrested were arraigned before Clarkstown Town Justice Rolf Thorsen and released without bail. The arrests came on the heels of an investigation spearheaded by District Attorney's Office Organized Crime Unit that led to a federal indictment in August of reputed Ramapo organized crime figure Daniel Pagano and a Suffern-based associate, Michael Palazzolo. Pagano, the son of the former late mobster Joseph Pagano, and Palazzolo were charged with a with loansharking and other gambling-related charges. Pagano has been identified as a captain in the Genovese crime family by federal prosecutors and has served prison time for mob-related scams. Both men pleaded not guilty and have been released on bond. In September, a veteran Haverstraw-based gambler was was arrested on a loansharking charge during a separate investigation. Anthony DePalma, 69, a barbershop owner also known as "Harpo," was charged with criminal usury after more than $60,000 and loan records were seized during a May 29 raid on his business. The lastest crackdown was led by the Organized Crime Unit with the assistance of the New York State Police Special Investigative Unit, the Clarkstown Police Department, the Ramapo Police Department, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, the Queens District Attorney's Organized Crime Division, the NYPD Asset Forfeiture Unit, the Department of Homeland Security, the Broward County Sheriff's Department, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Department and the FBI. The Internet allows gambling rings to expand over states and, sometimes, into foreign countries. "Illegal gambling is not a victimless crime," Zugibe said. "Those who participate in these criminal enterprises often use threats, intimidation and even physical force to collect debts and regularly charge usurious interest rates on outstanding debts." http://www.lohud.com/story/news/crime/2014/12/02/rockland-crackdown-gambling-mob-raids/19774629/Press Release (contains photos of those charged)http://rocklandgov.com/files/1214/1754/3508/2014.12.2_Sports_Betting.pdf

Capolongo was said to be an associate of the Genovese and Gambino families back in a 1997 gambling bust. Tognino was involved in the 2012 Pinnacle Sports gambling bust that got Vinny Basciano Jr. I just posted this word for word across the street, Ivy: Pat Capolongo, Ivy? I don't see his name in the article. Christ, if it's him, he packed up and moved to Florida YEARS ago. He's originally a White Plains guy. They called him Patty Mustache years ago. He's not made, but he got off with a Genovese soldier up there. He's long dead now but his first name was also Patsy. His ex-partner Steve dropped dead of a heart attack a year or two ago. He was only in his '50s, but Pat Capolongo has to be at least 60 today, maybe even older than that. He never did anything to me, but I knew a few people who didn't like him. He had a reputation for being a slow pay.

Yeah. He was close to Larry Black's nephew, who was a very close friend of mine. I don't want to post his name but he was an ex-fireman and a champion bike racer. And Slim had a horde of bookmakers and numbers guys around him. Billy B and Mikey Y up in Yonkers. Big Mike from Baychester/238th/Nereid was with him, too. Mike had a fucking mansion out in Jersey. He was taking numbers long after most of the street guys gave up the ghost, even after Wakefield went colored. Big Mike was all balls, but to be honest I wasn't crazy about him. Slim loved him, though. But then again, he brought Slim a lot of money over the years . That stuff can't be Googled, either. How am I doing?

Rockland county consider upstate? Nah, without traffic it's forty minutes from the Bronx, and twenty minutes from White Plains.

Pat lived in Daytona for quite awhile. I'm not sure when he moved to West Palm. But there are a gazillion ex-bookmakers in Palm Beach County, so he's right at home. We're a half hour south, in Delray.

Never been to Rockland county, I don't believe. PB, how far North do you have to go before you don't see any of the 5 families? I'd imagine it can't be much farther up nowadays. Probably around Goshen, give or take. But that area was always popular with the old time wiseguys as a place to get away. And on the other side of the Bear Mountain Bridge, you had the Rhinebeck area, which was popular, too. Fat Tony owned a farm in Rhinebeck. For the last ten years or so prior to the Commission case, he spent almost as much time up there as he did in Harlem. And he encouraged a lot of the old Westside guys to buy up that way, too. It's a short hop to Pittsfield, where they had a small crew years ago that acted like a conduit between New York and Springfield.

the g went after the rhinebeck property, it was established he owned it way before . so the bums could not take it..pizza do i remember that right, it has been a long time ago Yeah, you're right about the original farm property. The Feds tried to grab it. But he owned more than that. His wife and kids stayed there for good after he went away. Margaret died a couple years ago and she was layed out up there. Their children still live in the Rhinebeck-Red Hook area.

thanks, knocked the rust off, did you ever go to the Halloran house Biffs hotel? That's a little bit before my time, Bronx. I just turned 55. I remember it, but I can't say I was ever there. But I do remember that Nicky Auletta took a big loss there. Nicky was close to Biff at one time. Nicky died a little while ago, but he lived right over here. Guy made a fucking fortune in concrete with Vinny D.

huge case back then..changed so much in that biz and peoples lives..good recall pizza The asset seizure is why everyone remembers it so well. It was unheard of at the time. That's when they grabbed all the property up in New Rochelle, too. The old Glen Island Casino and all that property by the beach clubs. It really wasn't fair. And if I remember right, that's when Biff had to give up Transit Mix. But it's all relative. The Feds took from those guys and made the DiNapolis even richer because they were able to pick up the pieces, even though Vinny was inside at the time. Vinny was the smartest wiseguy to ever come out of Harlem. I don't care what anyone says.

brothers in two families, they knew construction..plus plus.. And Stevie makes four. The "adopted" brother . They made a fortune together. That's why the Lukes and the Westside guys almost seem like one family in the Bronx. There's so much overlapping with the construction and the concrete, even now, that real beefs between the two families are rare.
