Anybody who can share pictures and intel on different Mob-connected social clubs? I'd love footage of the ''Old Neighborhood Italian American''-Social Club, seeing that they nearly spent $2mill on building it. I tried googling it, but only found outside footage.
Also, I figure drinks are on the house and crew members are ''members'' of the club for free, how do they make money on a social club? Do they just use it as a Laundry for dirty cash? Maybe that's how some capos make money from soldiers, you know, memberships fee. ''Pay 4G's a week to DeNiro Social Club''
Most of those places were dingy storefronts with Formica tables and folding chairs. You went to drink coffee, play pinochle and complain about people who owed you money. Who would pay a "membership fee" to do that?
You're buying way too much into the image you see on television, Johnny. If you ever walked into one of those clubs you'd be terribly disappointed.
Most of them are gone anyway. When I was growing up in the '60s and '70s there were literally dozens of clubs in the East Bronx. Today you can count them on one hand. And the clubs that are still operating aren't nearly as accessible as they used to be.
That part of the life is over, and it's never coming back.
