maybe in 50 years they will say that about the 21st century mafia? I seriously doubt that. I think his point is that by then the Mafia would be nearly extinct... sort of like how in the 70s they made movies about the 40-50s mob and nowadays we make movies about the 70s mob (Casino, Goodfellas, etc)
