Binnie, let me say this. The Kennedy's dropped the ball. Hoover was FBI Director, which in the final analysis is an appointed position. Appointed by whom?

His Excellency, The President of the United States of America.

At that time, the President of the United States was JFK.

So you have Robert Kennedy on a crusade against the mob, his brother (JFK) is Boss, and a Caporegime (Hoover) is renegade in the sense that he is ignoring corruption. Surely they had to see that, the two brothers.

Bobby should have went to his brother and asked him to whack Hoover. Break him. Demote him from being FBI Director. Fire. him. Period. It's not like he didn't have access to the President. He could have spoken to him anytime.

Hoover should have been replaced with a swiftness, then the mob would have had far larger problems. If you have a new FBI Director that is hostile to your conspiracy, you can't whack him because you insult and upset every agent that answers to him.

If the mob had anything to do with hitting Bobby, breaking Hoover might have saved his life...and dare I say it might have saved John F Kennedy's life also.

By letting Hoover stay on as Capo of the FBI, they made it look to the mob like the mob's only problem was RFK and JFK.
