I don't think anyone here is answering his question. The OP is asking what if an outsider kills an associate. If it's a made guy, the Mafia family has to seek revenge (of course there have been exceptions). What about associates?

There is much more leeway with associates, I'm assuming. Depends on who they are, what they do for the family and how much they earn. In this day in age, I doubt the Mafia will do anything other than try to squeeze the killer for compensation and murder only if they really need to save face.
