Same applies to Joe Lieberman who in addition to running w/ Gore in 2000 was on the ballot in CT for re-election to the Senate.

Robert Dole is the only person in recent memory (mine, anyway...) to resign his U.S. Senate seat in order to run for the Presidency in 1996.
