Though to play Devils advocate, A LARGE perception of Mafioso is the same.
Mediators of disputes, a government for the oppressed, a police force for those who can't go to the police, enforcing morals of honour, fidelity, family, community etc etc etc.

The UVA's weren't Robin Hoods. Neither are wiseguys.
The UVA's weren't robbing criminals to help anybody except themselves, but wiseguys don't serve their respective communities any moreso.
One is as close to Robin Hood as the other. Make no mistake.
