And from what I've heard, the guy hasn't been the same since Nicky disappeared. It rattled that family to the core. The mother, the sister, these are decent people, in spite of what Dom is (and I'm not at all sugar coating that, the guy's a stone fucking gangster). What I'm trying to say is, maybe the guy is guilty of not going out of his way to protect his son. But he NEVER would have deliberately done it to his wife and daughter. Never.

Just my guess but he was probably advised by quite a few not to retaliate and make a big thing about it. We all know that the Genovese family keep a low profile and to draw attention for a guy who was not made and also a drug addict, don't care who's kid he was business comes first in that life and always will.

Thanks for the reply PB. I'm sure it's hard for any parent to see their kids go before them. It's just mind boggling that he never did anything about it. End of Story

''How can they say things like this about my father, that he's a Mafia boss?'' Nicholas Cirillo, 37, said in a recent impromptu interview in the narrow driveway of the Cirillo home. Pointing to the red-brick building with white shingles, he said the house was sorely in need of repairs.

''We don't have money to fix a drain pipe or the roof, and the washing machine in the basement leaks,'' Mr. Cirillo said. ''If he had money and was such a big shot, would we be living like this?''

How long after this article did Nicholas expire?

May 2004.

On March 3, 2006 Dominick Cirillo was sentenced to 46 months in prison and was ordered to pay $75,000 in restitution. "You continued to commit criminal acts as an elderly, infirm individual," Federal Judge Sandra Townes told Cirillo, who remained seated as he heard his sentence, complaining of a cough and sore throat.

God they are pathetic people. Complaining of tummy bugs and strp throats when they are in front of a judge. These are people who have made livings out of breaking limbs!

I generally feel little empathy for mafia wives. Hell there is even a common term 'mafia wife' which is synonamous with 'enabler'.
They know what they're getting into.
They buy their groceries with money paid for by some guys broken legs, so its a little hard to sympathise.

Its the kids I feel for. This guys sister. What the hell did she ever do.

That's the part that Coppola and Puzo and the other romanticists always seem to leave out of the story.

I gotta give it to "The Sopranos" there. Rosalie burying Jackie Junior and no one coming to the wake because it was Super Bowl Sunday. That's the fucking life. Chazz hit that one right on the nail. Nobody cares.

More likely the street or acting boss, like Bellomo was back in the early 1990's. They took care of the day to day operations while the big decisions were deferred to the real boss. It's pretty clear from wiretaps and informants that Chin was the real boss. Salerno himself was recorded saying he would leave the decision up to the boss when discussing an issue with Matty the Horse. Then you had Fish Cafaro's testimony. It was also clear that Salerno was acting in the boss capacity when he attended the famous Commission meeting photographed by the FBI plus all of the meetings he had with mobsters from out of town.

Even if Tony was "only" the second most powerful guy in that family, he still threw more weight than almost any other guy in the country. A patsy? Pleaaaaase.

And the "out front" boss pre-dates Vince and Tony anyway. Funzi didn't take a shit without talking to Benny Squint first. And as far as anyone in law enforcement knew----Hell, as far as guys in the other families knew----Funzi was the boss.

Yeah, it's kind of funny that by the time the feds finally pegged Benny Squint as the boss... he was already retired!

They also had Jerry Catena's old ass in the administration during the eighties even though he'd been in Florida for years at that point.

Shows how little they knew of the Genovese family at the time and truthfully, they know nearly as little now.

Jesus, Gerry Catena. I haven't heard that name in ages. And you're right, Snakes. He's a very good example because he was half living in Florida from BEFORE his prison stretch in the early '70s. Then when he got out he headed south for good.

By the time the Feds put up those charts for research and the Commission Case, Gerry was already out of the picture for a good ten years.

So do we have definitive timeline of Genovese bosses after Vito? Gets real confusing as some say Benny Squint was running things while other say he was only boss for like a month and Catena shelved him. Thanks.

OF COURSE he denied it. Massino was still the boss at the time, and the idea of him eventually becoming a rat was absurd. Vinny HAD TO deny it or risk getting hit himself.

That's my two cents, it might even be three cents. But that's what I believe.

But I wonder why Dom never done anything? Was it because they were estranged? You have to be pretty damn hardcore to kill your own blood.

I do agree that it is very plausible Vinny Ocean done this and of course covered it up like you said. It would have been suicide admitting he done it, or put his sons life on the line possibly as well if he had a hand in it too.

I know nothing of the Genovese but this story is pretty damn interesting to say the least.

Hairy Knuckles had a good listing of them but I can't find it.

Maybe he can come in here and correct me if I'm wrong but:

Cetana with Eboli out front (Catena gets jailed/retired, Tommy Ryan gets killed)
Lombardo with Funzi out front (Lombardo retires/Funzi jailed)
Fat Tony (briefly until his health problems)
Chin with Fat Tony out front

After Chin it was all kinds of guys taking turns because they were getting busted left and right during this time.

So Nick Cirillo gets whacked because he was getting into altercations with made guys? This all happened over a decade ago when Basciano's kids would have been children. How could they have been made?

Or have I misinterpreted something..

Vinny Jr. was proposed at the time. The kid was already in his 20's when it happened.

Vinny Sr. was only 19 or 20 when the kid was born. Vinny Sr. is exactly my age. I'll be 55 in October, he'll be 55 in November.

Nick Cirillo got into an altercation with Vincent Jr. Basciano and Dominick Cicale.

Cicale was made and Vinnie Jnr was the son of then acting Vinny Gorgeous.

And it's entirely possible that Cicale went off the reservation and did it himself. Lowlife rat fuck that he is. And you know that rats don't generally sway me too much one way or the other. But he's a real lowlife.

And I hate to say it, but shame on that entire crew for not checking deeper into Cicale's past. Because it was fairly common knowledge that Cicale had cooperated years earlier in a bullshit case in Florida. They sealed it in the court records, but anyone can do that math. A sealed plea = a rat.

Forget Massino's testimony. Without Cicale flipping, there's a fifty-fifty chance that Vinny would be on East Tremont Avenue right now.
