I would add one more to mldetroit's list. I do not know how to say this kindly, so I will just blurt it out. The desire of most men in organized crime, be it Irish or Jewish Mobs or the Mafia was to make a better life for their families - especially their children.

Most didn't want their children to follow them into the business. So they taught their children to embrace America and go to college and become doctors and lawyers. I believe it was Frank DeCicco who was shocked when John Gotti put up his son for membership in the Gambino family. Frank told John (according to Sammy Gravano) that he wouldn't do that to his children.

Ergo, the best of the Italian men today are in legitimate professions. Which begs the question "who are the made men of today?"
