He wasn't in that film - maybe you're thinking of Ken Wahl?

He was in The Possession of Joel Delaney, a 1972 film (with Shirley MacLaine) that got quite a bit of publicity when it was first released, but seems to have become obscure over the years. Scary film, as I recall.
