There is absolutely 'upside' to hitting him or any other rat living in plain sight (Pisciotti, Pacello, Joseph 'Joe Campy' Campanella etc).
Deterrent.
Having retribution is a key LCN trait and the lack of this only encourages further 'ratting'.

Whether this outweighs the FBI response is another debate.


It's simply no longer possible to get away it in this day and age. So any discussion of the upside is completely fantasyland, a few rats might fear you for the month before you get sentenced to death for killing a federal witness.
