You can't blame the courts. The law has always allowed broad deference to school officials in taking a course of action for their schools to maintain order and promote a learning environment even when the administration action encroaches a civil liberty. Exactly Kly. If you read the opinion, the Court cited inter racial and inter ethnic strife at the school that would only be intensified by dueling t-shirts. When the US flag is displayed, it should definitely not be as a retort! You can't tell me you're supporting their ruling? If Mexican Americans don't like the American flag they can take their asses out of here. I think the protection of our own heritage should come first

If you are familiar with their posts at all, they have a long history of using all sorts of legalese mumbo jumbo to explain away all sorts of things and justify all sorts of bullshit. Bottom line, there were obviously some Mexican students at this school who threatened violence if other students dared wear shirts with American flags on their day. What both the spineless school administrators and the court did was bend to that threat of violence in the name of safety. Never mind doing so impeded the freedom of speech of those who may have wanted to wear American flag shirts.

"What both the spineless school administrators and the court did was bend to that threat of violence in the name of safety"
If your reading of the story is true, what would YOU have done if you were in an administrative position at the school?
Warn students about any potential violence, tell them people have the right to wear shirts with Mexican flags or American flags regardless of what day it is, provide extra security (including police), and be ready to expel anyone who gets out of line. I read a separate article on the story and from what I gather...an administrator was prompted into action THAT day when a student told her that there might be problems. I'm not certain that school could procure extra security that day on such short notice or that police would send a single officer or a car to remain at the school the entire school day to prevent problems. Story I read also quoted a student asking the principal why "they are allowed to wear their flag when we can't wear ours" leading me to think that some kind of ban of Mexican flag gear was in place. Troubling quote because the US flag belongs to all the students...not just the white ones.....but it seemed to be a complicated situation I'm not sure that the administrator had any kind of training that would have prepared her to handle the situation. I would have either called a special brief assembly or spoke to the students over the intercom about how any trouble makers would be suspended...but not sure what the size of the school is, whether it's a high crime district, what kind of violence happened the previous year or what more of the facts on the ground were. Some would say that school administration could have seen this coming and taken measures ahead of time ....but like I said..don't think those are in charge are trained to deal with these things.

Relax folks... Cinco de Mayo is not a "Mexican Holiday"...it is not celebrated in Mexico. It is a Mexican American Holiday, much like St Patricks day is an Irish American Holiday.
Been there and done it I am very much for real, so if you ask, make sure you really want to know.
