Continuation from the 'Steven Crea as Boss' thread
"Wait 5 years from now and see how many more chinese immigrents come to NEw york and start buying up property. The same thing is going to happen here like it has in Europe canada and australia. They over populate a city and start buying up in one area then they just spread.Hipsers for the most part grow out of this Phase. But chinese people who are extremly racist and cheap ( they love buying property but forgo daily nessiteis that other people cant go without)never grow out this phase."
While I understand what Pizzaboy says and can agree with a lot of it, I am really glad that I'm not the only one who sees what tiger84 is talking about here. Don't think any of these people really give a fuck about the 'old New york' that you are talking about. They'll tap that nostalgia until they reach a critical mass, then you'll really see a change. Due to technology and other factors, immigration today is much different than it was 100 years ago. Something else to consider about the Chinese in particular: When the irish/Italian/etc came to the USA, the countries which they came from were fairly weak. (Ireland was under british control. Both Italy and Germany had only recently be united) Other minority groups like the jews were disliked and distrusted in the areas they came from, so there connections to the government were minimal at best. The Chinese, however, are coming from a country with one of the worlds largest economies and, despite recent slowdowns, one of the world's fastest growing. They are coming from a country which is technologically and militarily advanced. There coming from a country with a large international presence. That is a hell of a lot different than some irish guy jumping on a boat because he can't find enough potatoes. If you think that hipster are obnoxious and annoying, wait until these people reach a critical mass. They'll be like the Cubans in Miami. Then you really will see a new Brooklyn, a new Bronx, etc and the hipsters will be just as unwelcomed there as the people which you hope to protect. And if anyone tries to oppose them, the mother country will get involved and try to twist arms. I remember reading a while back that Italy had already some problems like that with China.(Yes, I know that there are a lot of generalizations here, but I;m going for a general idea, not pinpoint accuracy)
I will address other points later.

I'm not sure how we went from a thread in a different section (the Mafia), to the Hipsters, to the Chinese. But what the hell, I'm game . If you're asking me if I'm happy that the Chinese are buying up property here left and right, then the answer is a big fat NO. Of course not. But that has nothing to do with how annoying these hipster kids are right now. So if you're speaking of accepting the hipsters as the lesser of two evils in the long run, then you may have a point. But that doesn't make them any less of a nuisance right now. As far as things changing here in New York, it's not going to happen. We just elected a guy who is probably going to be the most liberal mayor this city has ever seen (I voted for Lhota, by the way). And he won in a fucking landslide. He's not real estate friendly at all, and all he wants to talk about is public housing and "a tale of two cities," which doesn't bode well for anyone, except for the people who are forever milking the system and draining the economy even further . So our views aren't that much different, StLguy. I'm probably just a little older than you (I'll be 55 this year), and a little crankier because I've lived in this city all my life. Except that today we live in Florida part time. We're heading down next week. So between this weather and all of this talk about change, I really can't wait to get off the plane at Palm Beach International!

I will address other points later. They also have special interests group that whine more about racism than Al Sharpton.Remember when jermy lyn was making a name for himself in the NBA no braodcaster was allowed to use ch*nk in the armour refrence.Im just wondering if they have ethnic special interests groups in china that have this much power.

@Tiger
Are you serious? "Asian Americans"* meaning those of Korean,Japanese, Chinese descent have been given the "model minority" tag partly because of traditional values from their cultures that stress education, the consistently high test scores on standardized tests, and generally the lack of "complaining" as you are phrasing it about slights, insults, "jokes" at their expense in pop culture or by public figures.
Newer generations of Americans of Asian background aren't going for that anymore though. Not gonna remain silent so that others can feel comfortable anymore.
*clarified because I'm on a few British forums and 9 times out of ten, when Brits are talking about Asians...they are referring to Indian,Pakistani folks. In America, when we say Asians....we're talking about East Asians.

Yes PB but the Chinese arnt developers. What they do is buy existing homes and offer ridiculous amounts for it thats what happened in bensonhurst. The Italian families wanted to move out of Bhurst and go live in staten island so when it was time to sell the chinese would offer more and end up buying the house and over the years bhurst would start shifting towards chinese ratio. That right there forces housing prices up and keeps the younger generation out the housing market.

Always respect honesty, but is it more acceptable to stereotype Asians than other groups of people?
Asians are no more racist/prejudiced than ANY other ethnic group in America. Definitely not more prejudiced than some of the groups that currently hold a lot of the real estate in the city, that's for sure.
Yeah they are ive worked with them for years the workers only hang out with each other and once one of them reaches managment level they only hire other chinese workers.

Replace "Chinese" with "White" and it sounds like things Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have said. Guess when they say it, it's "whining", huh? But you're just telling the truth.

" So if you're speaking of accepting the hipsters as the lesser of two evils in the long run, then you may have a point. But that doesn't make them any less of a nuisance right now."
I am saying that the hipsters are less of a long term threat....but I never said anything about accepting them. I'm all for killing white people with dreadlocks, but I just don't want to blame everything on them.
" He's not real estate friendly at all, and all he wants to talk about is public housing and "a tale of two cities," which doesn't bode well for anyone, except for the people who are forever milking the system and draining the economy even further"
It may bode well for someone. Those public housing buildings may need new windows...
"So our views aren't that much different, StLguy."
I didn't think that they were. I didn't mean to seem hostile.

I'm not sure how we went from a thread in a different section (the Mafia), to the Hipsters, to the Chinese.
To me, it seems that PB was wrongly criticized for not unleashing a racist rant against the changing ethnicities in NY- crazy as that seems. Not liking hipsters or any other clique shouldn't have to be tied into derogatory comments about ethnic groups. Since I'm not in NY, I enjoy posts that discuss the changes there- including the emergence of hipsters and changing demographics in the Bronx, Brooklyn, etc...
You shit-kicking, stinky, horse-manure-smelling motherfucker you! If you ever get out of line over there again, I'll smash your fucking head so hard you won't be able to get that cowboy hat on. You hear me? Fucking hick. -Nicky (Casino)

"Replace "Chinese" with "White" and it sounds like things Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have said.

Actually getthesenets it may sound the same, but it's not. Whites generally don't do that too much. Most whites I know either don't really care about the racial background of their coworkers/employees or actually think that it's 'cool' to have non-whites around. Whereas some Asians (especially Indians) are well known for clearing others and replacing them with their kind. (When I say whites I mean American whites. I;ve heard that eastern Europeans can quite racist. I know that Italian americans have been stereotyped as racists in the past, but (at least based on my experiences with parts of my family and others) that seems to be overblown.)
There are also other ways of being exclusionary than coming out and saying it directly. Only publishing advertisements/listings etc in a foreign language is one. While I am concerned about some Chinese activities in American cities (as well as their activities of other too) I think I may have over targeted them in my first post. The main point I wanted to make is that immigration in 2014 is much different than immigration in 1914 and (while I'm not against immigration) the city/nation of immigrants ideology needs to be rethought and that hipsters aren't totally at fault for changes in NYC or other American cities. The Chinese are just one of the best examples, but there are others too. Unless you're saying that the Chinese and Indian Americans in your experiences are hiring incompetent or unqualified members of "their kind" as you phrased it, I'm wondering what bothers you about what you're describing. It's all in the game. Maybe our backgrounds/viewpoints are different but EVERYBODY does this.Just more noticeable to you in these instances because non whites are doing it. So called minority group who earns a decision making/hiring position is going to place a premium on his/her PERFORMANCE at work, because he/she has control over that. Office politics...networks..connections...socializing with the "right people".....? Can't fully control things that subjective. Generally they are going to bring in competent people because that reflects their decision making/performance. Unless they are hiring unqualified people what exactly is the problem?
