Granted, names are still passed around the other families to make sure that a proposed guy doesn't have a rat past. But the days of one family telling another family who they can make are pretty much over (other than to restrict and maintain the size of said family).
That it was a Lucchese sanctioned hit is totally unsubstantiated and highly unlikely.
It's also disputed the guy claimed he was made to the cops.
