Peter O'Toole, aged 81, died.
TIS and Danito had picked him on their lists.
A good actor, I'll best remember him for a remark by Groucho Marx; Marx once ended a letter to someone asking, "Did you ever notice that the name Peter O'Toole has a double phallic meaning"? Lawrence of Arabia stands as one of the greatest pictures ever made, and O'Toole's performance (his debut) is one for the ages. This is a huge loss.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Eleanor Parker. She appeared as the Baroness in The Sound of Music (below) and in countless other films and television shows. She died December 9 at age 91. R.I.P. Signor V.

I know there are lots of stories about the partying of the rat pack in the 60s, but they were rank amateurs when compared to the exploits of Peter O'Toole, Richard Burton, Richard Harris and Peter Finch. O'Toole and Harris were classic interviews whenever they were on talk shows. Michael Caine told a story once when he was an understudy for O'Toole. He took Caine out for a night of heavy drinking and celebrating, which ended up with Caine waking up in a strange place, finding O'Toole passed out near him. Caine woke him and asked what time it was, and O'Toole, fighting the effects of drunkenness, answered, "Never mind the time. What f***ing day is it?" As it turned out it was early evening, two days after they had begun drinking.

I have two Peter O'Toole stories...
1. I had the dubious distinction to see him perform onstage in London in a performance of Pygmallion. O'Tool was shitfaced three sheets to the wind, and am sorry to say was awful. Flubbing lines, ad libbing, mugging to the audience and visibly pissing off the cast. The play went on foour and a half hours because of him. After that I only watched him on film, most memorably after that episode in King Ralph.
2. There is a story about his playing opposite Burton in Beckett. Because both of them were legendary drinkers, the director sat them down and told them they were actors, and because they did not know one another they were not friends, and thus should not drink together. They agreed, but the following morning Burton showed up with a couple of bottles of Cognac, went to O'Toole and said "Yesterday we were just two actors, but today we are friends," and they promptly downed the spirits.

I was making my list for next year, and I noticed that Julie Harris wasn't marked off. Got it, thanks. As a reminder, everyone should audit their lists to make sure you get full credit before the end of the year. (The simplest way is to just copy/paste each name into Google and check the wiki result)
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! lol Whaddaya want me to do? Whack a guy? Off a guy? Whack off a guy? --Peter Griffin My DVDs | Facebook | Godfather Filming Locations

Yusuf Lateef passes away Legendary tenor saxophonist, oboist, flutist and composer Yusef Lateef, whose 75-year odyssey in music took him from the bebop clubs of Detroit to the fields of Africa, the world of classical music and the halls of academia as a tenured professor, died Monday at his home in Amherst, Mass. He was 93.
Mr. Lateef’s death was confirmed by his wife, Ayesha, who said that he passed away after a short illness that took hold in September.
Mr. Lateef’s reputation in jazz was as broad as the shoulders of his towering frame. He gained notoriety as early as the 1950s in Detroit for his influential experiments with what would come to be known as “world music,” grafting the exotic instruments and influences of Africa and the Middle and Far East onto the trunk of modern jazz. His seminal embrace of Eastern scales would influence John Coltrane’s later innovations.
But the heart of Mr. Lateef’s musicianship was a profound understanding of the blues, best expressed through the wailing, cavernous tone he produced on the tenor sax. It was a sound braised by soulful bent pitches and to-the-point phrasing that grabbed you by the collar and refused to let go....
"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives." Winter is Coming
Now this is the Law of the Jungle—as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die. As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.
