The last "gangster" to be executed was Lepke Buchalter, and that was in 1944.
Also, John "Cockeye" Dunn, in 1949. There is also this one, not a boss, just a hitman though: http://murderpedia.org/male.L/l1/leisure-david.htmHowever, in my opinion, it makes no sense to spare the one who gave the order and the one who detonated the bomb and executing the one who planted the bomb (he was the most stupid of the group by the way, with an IQ of a 10-12 year-old). It would have made more sense to execute all 3 or leave this one alive like the other 2, if not, it seems as if he was more guilty than his boss and the hitman.
