In AP English I had to write a paper on who my hero is. I decided to write about charles lucky luciano as my hero. Well my mother said that I cannot write about a criminal as my hero but I personally don't see anything wrong with it. Do you see anything wrong with writing about a criminal as my hero?

Because he had a typical poor immigrant story, into becoming a millionaire. He inspired so many people at the time to become something more. I simply love mobsters and he was one of my favorites.

I'm not going to tell you who to idolize kid, but I will say this. No matter how you look at it Luciano was a criminal who scammed other people. Is there more grey area? Of course. But if you're going to admire an immigrant story do so with a non mobster like Sergey Brin, Albert Einstein, Alexander graham bell, or Madeliene Albright. Those are the true success stories

Lucky is one of the most interesting criminals I have ever read about. But the fact is he was a narcotics dealer/trafficker, mass murderer, extortionist, bootlegger, human trafficker, and profited off of prostitution. Even among criminals, he was ruthless.
The OP reminds me of Jimmy Burke, who loved criminals, and even named his sons after the members of the James Gang.
You shit-kicking, stinky, horse-manure-smelling motherfucker you! If you ever get out of line over there again, I'll smash your fucking head so hard you won't be able to get that cowboy hat on. You hear me? Fucking hick. -Nicky (Casino)
No, Lucky Luciano isn't good enough. Roy DeMeo - this is the one you should look up to! Or, if you are informed about Italian gangsters, pick Filippo Marchese or Pino Greco.
Willie Marfeo to Henry Tameleo:
1) "You people want a loaf of bread and you throw the crumbs back. Well, fuck you. I ain't closing down."
2) "Get out of here, old man. Go tell Raymond to go shit in his hat. We're not giving you anything."
As much as i'm fascinated by mobsters i don't see how people can love them as the OP said. Remember what they are.

The Mafia Is Not Primarily An Organisation Of Murderers. First And Foremost,The Mafia Is Made Up Of Thieves. It Is Driven By Greed And Controlled By Fear.

Then he can be your hero. It won't harm anyone, or make people who read your paper go out and start crime sprees. Reasons you stated are valid ones. Some people worship Fidel Castro, he imprisoned and killed many inocent people. Others idolize Mao, he slaughtered many. But both also did things for some of their populations. Luciano's misdoings are minuscule in comparison.

That's the challenge of Luciano as a subject. To offset his murders, what good did he do?
That is, the good stuff besides making it possible for: high society to purchase top shelf whiskey in the 20's, junkies to get their fix, hookers to have a place to work, business owners to buy insurance to prevent arson and have clean windows, people to borrow money when they have nowhere else to turn, merchants to get their fish to the market before spoiling, cops having a college fund for their kids as long as they looked the other way...

Gangsters may be very interesting but to idolize them and call them your hero is just sick. I am wondering how old you are ???
I am 16. You probably think I am some immature child but Ever since I was about 13 I have always been so fascinated with mobsters especially the ones from the 20 - 30's. I find crime and criminal activity to be very interesting, so why not admire a mobster. I never turned in the paper because my mother thought it was one of the worst subjects for my hero so instead I wrote about Charlie Chaplin.

Bit of a difference from Lucky to Chaplin, good choice though..

I'd bet that J. Edgar Hoover would have told fortunato that Lucky was a better choice for a role model.

Sounds like your mom is a hero.
Why because she told me not to write about Luciano. I love my mother dearly and would do anything for her but I wouldn't say she is a hero.

Your moms a bigger hero than Luciano kid. Do yourself a favor and stop glorifying these guys, it doesn't do any good and will land you in trouble. Plus it's just plain stupid

To OP..in case you are serious. How are the parents who work to provide you with food, clothes, and shelter NOT heroes?
Like I said I love my mother dearly, but - even though I am a very selfish person - My mother is like a best friend to me, she always gives me advice and takes care of me. I look at her as more of a savior than a hero.

You didn't respond to the full quote. Makes me think that this is a joke thread.

Ha ha ha, getthesenets, the Brady Bunch episode was the first thing I thought of when I first clicked onto this thread.
