The news and photos are awful. I couldn't believe the ferocity of the fire.

This disgusting crime was reported in todays paper. A 21 year old soldier from the 82nd Airborne Dvn and his 21 year old wife were arrested for having sex with animals, video taping it and putting it on the internet and for soliciting others. Article didn't say if they were soliciting other people or other animals.

The poor animals. Subjects of human debauchery. Who should be in the cage?

My old hometown of Dunmore made the national wire this weekend, specifically it was the Penn State extension campus. So what do you get when you cross a catholic priest with Penn State University? You guessed it. Father Paulish, a Scranton parish priest, was found by police in the back seat of his car in a campus lot with a 15 year old boy, who was naked from the waist down. Father Paulish explained to the arresting officer that he drove to the campus to do research for a sermon when he encountered the troubled youth, and he was counseling him.

Later, both he and the boy admitted that they met and had arranged the sexual tryst on Craigslist.

Also, in my neck of the woods there are some very elaborate "haunted" autumn amusements, including houses, mazes, hayrides that attract thousands from out of state. They get bigger each year, and now one place is advertising a haunted adventure where you go through the house almost in complete darkness while naked. You have to be over 18, and the feature begins after midnight. I think I'd at least want my shoes.

A couple of months ago in Greenville NC, a gentleman opened fire on a number of people in a busy area. I believe he shot 5 people but may have the number wrong. In yesterdays paper the sheriff announced the gentleman who shot them selected his victims because they were all white. He is black. This was not mentioned back when it happened. I am now wondering where oboma , holder , jackson and sharpton are. Why isn't the DOJ pushing this as a hate crime??? Why is everyone silent?? Have we come to accept that this is OK because of slavery or because of Zimmerman.

Our government are putting forward plans to ban smoking in prisons. This will no doubt go down well with the lags behind bars. Expect riots and violent repercussions!!

Many of you may have already heard about this story from NYC. A 33 year old man was driving his SUV on the West Side Hwy when he became involved in an accident with a motorcycle. The SUV driver, who was in the car with his wife and 2 year old daughter, ended up running over the biker in an attempt to escape the scene. Sounds pretty horrid but there's a lot more to this story.

The biker was one of a large group of bikers who were riding together (at least fifty of them) and who were riding recklessly. The whole "accident" was clearly videotaped by one of the bikers (who ended up posting the video online) and the tape shows that the biker was at fault because he suddenly slowed down his bike which was directly in front of the SUV. The whole group of bikers stopped and some started to approach the SUV in a menacing and threatening manner. The SUV driver panicked and hit the gas when he feared for his own safety and that of his family. The bikers gave chase, and caught up with the car and forced him to stop. Again, the group started to approach the car in a threatening manner and again the driver took off. The chase came to an end when the SUV exited the parkway and became stuck in local street traffic at which point the bikers attacked the driver (after breaking the car's window). The wife of the biker who was run over is now saying that her husband is paralyzed from the waist down. Two of the bikers have been arrested and more arrests are expected.

I would do the same thing if I was driving and I felt my family was threatened.

Me too. I saw stories on this the past two days. It appears the large gang of bikers was deliberately provoking the SUV, in which a young couple and their young child were riding. The van was surrounded and the couple reasonably feared for their lives. I saw photos of the man, who was eventually dragged from the car and beaten.

Apparently it's not the first time that these thugs on bikes pulled off something like this. I'm interested in why the police didn't respond. This happened over a period of timeand there was a flood of emergency calls advising of the situation.

Klyd, it seems it's a thing that the bikers do. They surround a car and then brake, filming it and posting it online.

Although I'm sure nobody expected the outcome, it shouldn't have been out of the realm of possibility.

The driver of the SUV should have gone for the GW Bridge, rather than get off the highway onto local streets in Washington Heights.

One good thing about the government shutdown is that nearby Gettysburg National Park is closed, and the permit for a national Ku Klux Klan rally is rescinded.

If the Tea Party republicans in congress had known this, they might have reconsidered their opposition to funding the ACA.

I've seen groups of these thugs on crotch rockets ride in packs on heavily traveled streets, often during times of heavy traffic
and doing acrobatics on their bikes trying to impress everyone while at the same time putting everyone in danger with their carelessness- ie; doing wheelies in heavy traffic. If that driver had a cell phone he could have called 911 and asked for an officer to meet him on the road.

I don't know if the driver had a cell phone, but this all happened within six minutes.

I understand that there were numerous 911 calls. One of the uncharged bikers is making an incredible claim that the driver of the SUV with his family in the car had been driving in an erratic fashion, speeding, swerving and changing lanes. I doubt you'll see any 911 calls made for this.

I have heard of quite a few stories around NY/NJ where drivers of old cars purposely slow down in front of vans and cars enough to stop both vehicles, and falsely claim that they had been hit in the rear where preexisting damage is. They then threaten the the other driver to give them a few hundred dollars to avoid being beaten.

According to the Internal Affairs Dept of the NYPD it's being reported now that an undercover, plainclothes cop was a witness to the attack on the street. (There's a fair amount of street drug dealing up there in that part of Manhattan).

I heard this too. He said he allowed the attack on the motorist to continue because he didn't want to blow his cover. Well, the cover is gone now, so I hope he can fully implicate everyone involved.

It gets "better". Now it is being reported that there were four or five off duty cops in the group of bikers, and some off duty corrections officers, as well. They're being investigated to see why they didn't take more active roles in stopping this from happening.

this is beginning to sound like the NJ Troopers escorting the high speed runs to Atlantic City. Are the inmates running the asylum?

I've always said that in prisons there's very little difference between those on the inside of the bars and those on the outside. This development makes this incident much worse.

Aww How nice Lilo. My hometown!! I love that picture of downtown GR/Grand River. Every time I go there I like to walk around downtown and shop in the area. Something about the buildings/atmosphere is awesome. I use to work DT years ago but it wasn't nearly as nice as it is now. Gosh Grand Rapids, MI a nice place to retire... and here I am in California. Go figure!! But thanks for posting. I'll send the story to my brothers/sister, tho they've likely seen it.

Btw, about a year or so ago I posted a youtube video of people from GR singing American Pie because they claim the city was losing it's charm (for lack of a better word). Glad to see this story tho.

Well, this story I bring up because it really is (was) in my neck of the woods. Apparently an 11 year old boy collapsed on campus while playing football. This is the school I worked at for 22 yrs. I am not in the area now and I've been gone enough where I wouldn't know the students, but sad story. Apparently the boy had health issues but I'm not sure what they were. Just hit home.

Very sad story, TIS. We don't expect children in America to drop dead in school. Unfortunately, we're not surprised anymore when they're gunned down in hallways.

Yea it sure is sad. One year when I was their one of our custodians died of a heart attack right on campus. Boy, what a shocker that was.

You're right tho, now we must worry about our children getting gunned down at schools. That's the world we live in I'm afraid. Tho odds may be slim, I worry for my daughter who is an elementary school teacher. Then that's a whole other thread isn't it? LOL

TIS, what a terrible tragedy. So sad.

When you mentioned your daughter, it reminded me of a September 11th memorial service I attended. A woman spoke, and I will never forget her. She lost her daughter in one of the towers, and her courage that night so impressed me. She said that her son and husband were a firefighter and a police officer, and she never rested until they came home from their shift safely. But never, ever did she think that her daughter would be killed at work.

It was one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever heard, and reminded me that we don't know about life and what it holds for us from day to day.

Don't know details yet but evidently there are shots fired at LAX. Man with a rifle got past TSA screener and reports that suspect was shot. Still breaking!!
