When Michael Barry began trying to get a new trial for his murderous mobster brother with the intention of blaming the slaying on another wise guy, sources said he knew he needed the proper La Cosa Nostra blessing.

So, nearly a year ago, Barry, 37, took his brother's case not only to Boston's newly annointed underworld kingpin, Carmen DiNunzio, but also to another man close to DiNunzio, Peter J. Limone.

Limone, 68, reputedly involved in the Boston Mafia dating back to the 1960s, was let out of prison two years ago after serving more than three decades for a murder he apparently did not commit. That Limone is now a frequent companion of DiNunzio, even as he pursues a lawsuit against the government for wrongful imprisonment, is not lost on state investigators.
