I think Bonanno was a poor boss in terms of organization, to centralized. He kept the best rackets (unions, garment district) for himself, tended not to trust people who weren't Castellamamarese and promoted people based on family ties, not upon merit. He ran a tight ship as long as he was there, but as soon as he wasn't there to run it all it started falling apart.
