Valachi killed a fellow prisoner in the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary on June 22, 1962. That was the event that led ultimately to his testimony before the McClellan Subcommittee in October 1963. That's a 16-month gap. Don't know when in that time period he agreed to turn rat.
