http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-22566231This is very good article on the matter, sorry if it has been posted already. It's about Peppe Pesce the leader of one of the most powerful Calabrian mafia clans handing himself in. What I don't understand is that how are they so cool with jail? he acted as if it was nothing and also said "He would hurry up" kind of implying he will be getting out sooner than expected. I don't know how good the Italian Judicial system is (I know it's not great) but apparently, so I've heard, once the mobsters are sentenced, some of them get released really early and the public simply doesn't know about it. In essence they end up only serving a smaller percentage of the years they are handed down. Also has anyone taken the place of Oppedisano, if nobody knows a name, is it likely somebody has? Also how to mobsters in Italy live in prison, do they sort of live a "Good life" even in prison?

Richie Aprile : I did, Then I put it in drive..

Thanks for clearing that up carmela. As for the Mafiosi themselves living in prisons , ate they treated like ordinary prisoners or do they get their little perks now and then. Also I would like to know, how are italian prisons anyway? Are they rough, peaceful , corrupt ? If you're a fugitive, you're already convicted in absentia by the time they catch you. You'll have to do your sentence for whatever crime that was and anything else they can pin on you after catching you. Most all bosses that are captured are immediately put into what is usually reserved for the worst criminals and mafiosi, which is the 41b regime. This is to insure no pizzini will get out from that boss to others on the outside, although some still manage to. It's similar to confinement in the US. One hour a day of daylight, one hour only per month for a visitor behind glass only, one hour for lawyer visit, etc. The ones that aren't under article 41, do get some perks periodically. I know of one that is jailed for life, but 2 years ago, he was allowed to come down from where he's being held in north italy to see his family in sicily for 4 hours. Just because.
