Scum like these guys exist and yet there are still people who don't believe in the death penalty.
Apples and oranges. Yes they are apparently scum (they are presumed innocent btw) and if they are convicted then they will officially be scum.
Opposition to the death penalty is an entirely different issue. In this case they could get the death penalty for Federal charges of kidnapping. It certainly did not deter these people from doing what they did.
