Pat Summerall died recently. Many remember him as the play-by-play announcer teamed with John Madden for CBS and later FOX. But before that he gained his fame with Tom Brookshire in the 60s and 70s. I always appreciated his understated style of calling a game, which is now swept away by the ESPN method of being loud and never shutting up just in case you might say something insightful by accident.

I'm sorry to hear this. I saw him play once in an Ann Arbor club. He was kind enough to answer a few questions after the show. He had hands like catcher's mitts. His little finger was longer than my middle finger. Really a great guitarist and interpreter. Richie Havens Dies

Havens died of a heart attack, the family said it a statement. Further details on his death were not immediately disclosed...

Oh no. I'm sorry to hear that. I remember mostly his Woodstock performance and had a style all his own. RIP

Actor Allan Arbus died April 19 at the age of 95. Arbus was best known for playing psychiatrist Maj. Sidney Freedman on the TV series M*A*S*H* in the 1970's. In his younger days, he was a well-known photographer, working with his ex-wife Diane Arbus.
RIP

"Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? Every, every minute?"
RIP Sidney Freedman. He was one of my favorite recurring characters on M*A*S*H*.
The character Sidney Freedman, as portrayed by Arbus, was one of my favorite tv characters of all-time! He was smart, compassionate and best of all, he was as funny as the rest of the show's main characters.
Lesser known, Frank Bank, who played "Lumpy" on "Leave it to Beaver" died last week.

This one slipped by me. I was a Richie Havens fan from his first album "Mixed Bag". If anyone wants a classic retro folk/blues album, this has to be in your collection. I saw Richie in concert probably in 1970/71 at Univ. of Scranton. Fantastic. A troubadour.

Ray Harryhausen, a wizard of special effects in movies, died at age 92. His effects made the movies fun and I fondly remember the hours and hours that I spent watching his films (including the "Sinbad" and "Jason and the Argonauts" flicks of the '60s).
I know TIS loved those movies, too.
Below is a four minute video of most of his creatures (from chronological order starting with "Mighty Joe Young" in 1949):

I wouldn't have known his name SC, hadn't you mentioned it a couple years back but you're right I LOVE those movies, especially Sinbad and Jack the Giant Killer(both of which I purchased thru Amazon).
Sorry to here of his passing.

Danito, me too. Down the street from us, when I was a kid, was a local movie theater that showed two movies (not new releases) for 25 cents. I'd beg my no imagination sister to go see Sinbad with me. She'd complain all the time, but went with me. I must have seen it a least a dozen times as a kid.
A couple years ago I purchased it on Amazon. When I next visited MI, I told my sister I had a special surprise for her and made her watch it again for old time's sake. She couldn't believe I actually purchased the movie. Ha ha
Remember this..."From the land beyond beyond; from the world past hope & fear: I bid you Genie now appear?"
Don't know why I loved it or why I still remember that line, but I do.

I've seen it at least 15 times and know the script almost by heart (although just the German version). I bought the DVD, but it's one of the movies that don't work on a TV screen.
