Just the other day Ebert announced he was semi-retiring from reviewing movies because of a cancer he needed to get operated.

This really bums me out. Loved his old show with Gene Siskel back in the day, they (along with Ebert's reviews) help expand my cinema vocabulary beyond mainstream popcorn into foreign and arthouse movies. Alot of cinemaphiles today are really feeling his loss hard. Always admired how enthusiastic he was about movies, popcorn and arthouse. In general not elitist or populist, a lesson that most movie critics (professional and on-line amateurs) need to learn badly.

If there is an afterlife after all, hopefully he and Siskel are getting caught up on the movies they both didn't get to debate since Siskel died. Hopefully they'll argue too.
