Vatican just admitted that their salvation lies not in the West, but in the 3rd World.
From that viewpoint, you can make the argument that Pope Francis is a compromise. Because although he was born in South America, his parents were Italian. So it pacifies the West and the Third World at the same time.
Oh, and for the record, I think you meant their future lies in the Third World. Our salvation lies in Christ .
