The lizard is called a gecko, and Geico is a US-based vehicle insurance company. Originally, Geico was marketed at US Government employees, and the name stood for:

Government
Employees
Insurance
COrporation (or something like that).

My father worked for the US Postal Service (or the Post Offal, as I used to call it), and I remember he used to have the family car insured through Geico, back in the days when it was Pre-Lizard.

For several years now, the Geico TV commercials have featured a CGI talking (Cockney!) lizard as their spokescritter. I don't think these ads air in the UK, but you might find them on YouTube. Some of them are pretty imaginative, if I do say so.

And BTW, for the last eight years or so, the voice of the Geico Gecko has been done by Jake Wood from "Eastenders."

Now that I've been serious and informative, it's time to revert to my old, familiar persona...

This, incredibly enough, is not a joke:

And this...well, I leave it up to all of you:

Obvious case of Reptile Dysfunction. whistle

(I wonder if the little guy had insurance? confused )
