I tend to agree. I think that even if he beats the murder rap, he'll get nailed on at least one of the more recent charges. I'd have to take a closer look at the federal guidelines, but off the top of my head I'd say that with his record he'd be looking at something in the ten year range on those charges. Not easy at his age to say the very least.

what drugs was he dealing?where was he based out of?

Ivy, have you seen the indictment? It says Vernace is "a captain and a member of the family´s ruling panel". It doesn´t look like he was the consigliere. Any thoughts on that?

I just looked at the indictment online. Most of it is gambling, with a lot of repeated things, like use of word 'Enterprise" I see no mention of a drug charge.

They also indicted them for illegal use of a firearm. It is tied to the murder, which seems like waste of time. If they are guilty of murder , why bother with extra charge, if not guilty, they get acquitted on gun charge anyway, I assume.

I read about the drug charge in Gangland but it was only mentioned once, the rest of the article was about the murder charge. I can't use your link for some reason but are you sure it's the current one because it says 20th January 2011

Vernace is a Queens guy who now lives in Suffern.

He came up under Jo Jo Corozzo and ran a numbers joint in and around Howard Beach. He had a partner for his numbers and they operated out of a bar (can't remember the bar or who his partner was). This indictment has him dealing H and loansharking. There are tapes that will be played at this trial for those two charges.

He was made in 1999 (maybe by Pete Gotti?) I don't know who sponsored him, but possibly Jo Jo or Little Nicky.

The reason he didn't get clipped is probably because the guys who were upset over this 1981 hit targeted Riccardi as the main culprit. He was known to have a temper and go off half-cocked. Vernace was brought in after the beef already happened. Why he fired the shot, who knows. I'm guessing the guys in charge saw him as a secondary character and not the one causing the beef. Plus, I'm sure he laid low after this.

He was never in the administration, just on a ruling panel after the top 3 guys were either in jail, on trial, or under supervised released. You can be on a panel without being in the administration.

If anyone else has questions about Vernace, send me a direct message.

He was reportedly made consigliere after that indictment came down.

Any amount of heroin is significant. Sale of one hit is a felony.

They either feel that she isn't credible or that they just don't need her. We'll know soon enough.

i read the article it was more along the lines of that they felt they didnt need her after sullivans testimony, it was apparently pretty powerful. i guess shes just gonna say the same thing as he is considering they were both their when it happened. it might they dont want to muddy it up by bringing the gotti name into things. Im guessing they can still call her up if they want.

I love ya, Cheech. But if I ever find myself on trial, do me a favor and predict a guilty verdict. This was I have a shot tongue lol.
