Looks like a nice little unique area Lilo. I can't say I remember ever hearing of Cork Town. I do have relatives in Flat Rock tho.

Corktown is where Tiger Stadium used to be. It's also where Lindell AC (Alex Karras' old bar) once was.

An interesting controversy is brewing in the neighboring town of Hershey, PA, which has an ordinance that bans fast food type restaurants in the business area around Cocoa Drive and Chocolate Avenue. The Chipotle chain is trying to place one of their restaurants there, but the township has denied a permit as they claim it falls under their definition of fast food-style establishment, but Chipotle contends that they offer food and service that differentiate it from the type of business, from which Hershey is seeking to protect the area.

Detroit — Two children killed in a massive pileup at the Rouge River bridge during Thursday's morning rush hour were siblings traveling with their parents from Windsor, Ont.
The children, a 7-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl, were traveling in one of the 30 vehicles involved in the 9:30 a.m. crash that shut Interstate 75 near Springwells and prompted an emergency request for 20 ambulances. Their parents are among those believed to be injured in the accident, police say.
Another motorist also was killed in the crash, which shut down the bridge for hours. None of the victims' names have been released.
The chain-reaction crash, described as being a "mile long," occurred on southbound I-75 from Springwells to Schaefer, forcing the closure of both sides of the freeway for several hours.

That's horrible Lilo. Whenever I pass an accident and see a mangled car (like the one behind the white truck in the picture) it gives me the chills. I am assuming the slick roads were a factor.

@TIS, Yes, the roads were bad, not so much because of snowfall but because of ice and wind.
@SB, as you say, unthinkable.

For some reason, this story hasn't gotten much press. But, I'm glad to hear this 6 year old boy that was kidnapped and held hostage in Alabama is safe. Apparently the kidnapper was killed. Does anyone know this guy's motives and/or what he wanted? Why did he kidnap this boy?

The funeral service for former NYC mayor, Ed Koch, was held today and it was, without a doubt, one of the best I've ever seen. Koch was quite the quintessential New Yorker. A brash, outspoken guy who didn't care if someone disagreed with him. He was also full of humor and it showed during the eulogies today. Speakers included current Mayor, Mike Bloomberg and Bill Clinton, who cut short a trip to Japan to speak at the funeral on behalf of the country.
If you get the opportunity to watch any coverage on the tv news or go to YouTube to see the speeches I suggest you take the time to do so.
Here's the entire service:
Bloomberg starts at 15:50 on the video and is followed by Bill Clinton.

Boy, I woke up this morning to news of an L.A. Ex-cop on the run. He is suspected of shooting two people and came right here thru Corona/Riverside late last night and shot a police officer. Evidently he posted on Facebook all those he was going to kill.
What's scary is this guy is a former military AND an weapons expert of some kind (not to mention he's 280 lbs). He claims the LAPD tarnished his name by firing him and wants revenge on all those he blames.
Earlier a couple local freeway ramps in my area were closed. My daughter teaches in Riverside, and tho nobody expects this guy to go to a school, her school and others in the area are on lockdown (or at least were).
Can't recite off-hand but some of the quotes this guy wrote are downright chilling. He really seems to have snapped.

Breaking news here is they found his burning truck in Big Bear, which is yet another county (San Bernardino) BUT he was not inside. They are searching the area.

Scary when any maniac is running around, whether it's a cop or a postal worker or an office worker. I just saw the aerial footage of his truck on the news, TIS. Yikes.

I thought that was odd. He is apparently masterful in avoiding detection, and he had to know that igniting his truck in the woods would draw attention to it. I wonder if this was done by someone else, or whether this is the move that gets him captured.

Well, I'm kind of thinking he set his truck on fire. I'd say he may be coming to the end of the road BUT he is an ex-military weapons expert and ex cop. I have to assume he's good at what he does. Evidently there was a "manifesto" sent to LAPD saying, in part:
"I will bring unconventional and asymmetrical warfare to those in LAPD uniform whether on or off duty," Dorner wrote in the letter.
The portion of his rampage that happened here in Corona was he shot two police officers at a stop. One died, the other I hear is critical.

They still haven't found the Psycho cop, Dorner. They will have an update at 1:00 (PST).
Last word is that they are still searching Big Bear area, knocking on doors and scanning the area. I have a feeling he's not there although he could be hiding in a woodsy area. He'd have to be on foot though unless he found a ride out (last word, no cars were reported stolen in the Big Bear area.) Being a cop, and a weapons expert the guy surely knows where to hide and what to do.

There was a similar situation in my area, TIS. A guy murdered his daughter-in-law who was in the midst of an ugly divorce from the man's son, and then fled to a nearby state park. He was an experienced hunter and survivalist and they couldn't find him. Honestly, not sure if they ever did.

Someone stabbed and killed someone with a large knife here in Brooklyn. Mayor Bloomberg wants to limit all knifes to under 2 inches now and every knife must be registered with the NYPD.

That's what I wonder about this guy. Will he be found? ONLY, he is a cop killer and I doubt the cops will let this go anytime soon. May take a while but they'll likely get him. All the poor people on his hit list must be terrified. It's just that he's been all over Southern California. Who knows where he could be now?

TIS, this story sounds as if written in Hollywood. A cop with an idyllic view of his job becomes disillusioned by graft, racism, corruption and brutality on the force, and becomes an unstoppable, one-man, raging wave of terror on a rampage of violent vengeance. The institution that created him seems almost powerless to stop him. He's a bad Rambo.

LOL It sure does! I picture this guy hiding in the cold woods, with a rag tied around his forehead, guns & arrows on hand, using his survival skills, ready to attack. Really tho, it's scary.

I just googled my local story, TIS, and couldn't find one that said they found him. The park he escaped into is 45,000 acres, so although they had eight different police agencies combing the woods, he wasn't found. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

They still haven't found him. Big Bear has a lot of cabins in secluded areas. The police were knocking on each door. Since it's in the mountains I understand it was very snowy yesterday and they couldn't fly helicopters to to an aerial search due to visiility. Today they said they could but still nothing as far as I know. He could be in the woods but I'm kind of thinking he's gone from that area.
Giancarlco, I only saw a news caption about Sheen and wondered what it was about and didn't know til I read your post. LOL I'm sure he means well but don't know if I'd want Charlie Sheen trying to defuse any situation.
My daughter said on her way to work yesterday they had one of those large flashing freeway signs with his picture.
