Scalish, no one here thinks there is NO LCN activity outside New York. Someone who believes that, is more stupid then someone who thinks the likes of the LA, St Louis and Cleveland families still exists. Okay you might have individuals in those areas who are made members who might still be active in illegal activity but to be part of the crime family which in the heyday had probably 20 25 made members max?

i think everyone on this board will admit that there are still a few guys earning in LA. the problem comes when you've been on the boards for a while and there is just a constant stream of people with "inside information" on a particular family that is based on nothing but loose assumptions and certain people have to constantly answer the same questions and it gets old. thats why its just been easier here to say that a family is viable or not. just remember though, just because a family isn't viable doesn't mean that there isn't a small amount of activity still going on. that seems to be where the confusion is. families like LA, cleveland, tampa, and st louis still have a handful of guys around, but nothing really organized, which is why people here tend to go with viable or non-viable.

People can easily get the Al Capone - John Gotti fever and start getting excited about the mob.

They need to calm down, look at the present L.A. situation where only a handful of guys are earning without federal heat and achieving more in the long run then New York does.

DeMeo, how old are these members in LA? they will be long gone before the New York families start to become something like Philly or New England. The reason there isnt much heat on those LA guys is because they arent a family/clan who has a big presence.

i don't know what achieving more long term than new york means. if it means staying outta jail maybe, but there are plenty of guys in the northeast that are able to accomplish the same thing and actually make good money. seems like most of the active guys left in LA are have gone legit anyways whether it be vending machines, air conditioners, pizza or porn so you don't really have to be low key when you aren't even really committing crimes anymore. with all the gangs and cartels in southern california the cops could care less about these guys as they pose almost no threat to the community.it should speak volumes about the current state of the mob out there that the boss has apparently been dead for months and this news just got out!

People are holding onto the past too much with all this family nonsense.

If a guy made $250,000 each year in L.A. with a few others without federal interference then he's gonna keep it whereas New York guys are harassed and have assets seized.

Sometimes, being small is better then being big. Look at the Chicago Outfit - they are called Mob-Lite, due to their ability to keep it small and keep out of drug dealing.

I agree DeMeo. The thing I find to is the smaller families like Detroit who had almost all there members related in one way or another operate much better and don't have to worry about guys flipping all the time. I mean heck Detroit has been around for a long time and only had I think one member cooperate with the government. The Rizzutos in Montreal were similar as well they had alot of blood relatives within the family and they were successful for such a long time, hell they all lived on the same street. Now those are literally families. Big or small.

I left this page open and forgot to refresh. Several people posted before I did. I meant to ask Scalish what city he is in. Although basd on his username, I'm guessing Cleveland.

It says he's in Canada under his username.

Saw this thread after looking Milano up on the internet. The L.A. mafia family has been defunct for 5 years. There's actually nine made guys left and only a few are active. Paulo "Paulie Tattoos" Rossi, Michael "Sports Bar Mike" Russo &
James Testa were never made. - Kenny Gallo

Smaller family's have competition from bigger street gangs though so they may be earning but their spread thin trying to defend their rackets but on the other hand the feds target these gangs more than the smaller familys

I dont know; the grammar and capitalization is kinda out of character and on the other forum he nearly always ended his posts with 'Kenji' as opposed to 'Kenny Gallo'. Meh, ban-hammered now in anycase. It's like a record.

On topic, people talk about figures 'taking over' like there's anything to take over. From the look of it, Tommy Gambino's more involved with Sicilian guys than anyone in LA. I'll reproduce here some preliminary shit on his history that I posted on RD;

Apparently Gino fucking Valenni (a 70's pop star, of all fucking people) introduced Clinton to Gambino sometime in the mid 90's.

He was about 27 in 1999/2001, putting his birth date at around 1971/1973, making him around 40/42. Still relatively young. He approached Roger Clinton seeking a commutation of his father's sentence in 1999.

He apparently used to run a company called Progressive Telecom, which placed paypones in bars, clubs, etc. His business partner in that venture was Donnie Shacks Montemanaro.

When a drug lab accused of producing ecstasy was raided in 2001, investigators put one Derek Galanis on phonetaps that apparently saw him in contact with Gambino, allegedly attempting to seek "financing from the Gambino family" (I assume sanguinary, since from what I can tell Tommy has quite little to do with NY)

He was named as a defendant in an LA small claims court case in 1998 along with online jeweller and retailer David Zinberg and one Sergey Proshak, who's crimes include failiure to register as a sex-offender.

it could be Kenji.... he has wrote in capitol letters before on other sites. I think they banned him because there's a lot of users from real deal on here and they wanted to prevent a war from happening. Pretty smart. Many from rd didn't get along with him. I do like him.

Barett, Pete wasnt that old he was only 82. Lawrence Dentico is the current underboss of the Genovese crime family since 1997 and will be aged 90 in 12 days. Venero Mangano is the Genovese family Consigliere since 1987 and will be 91 in September 7.

Just for the record, Mangano has never been identified as a consigliere but an underboss. Most likely he´s retired by now. Dentico has been identified as a capo who served on a ruling committee. I´m sure Ivy can elaborate on this. Or check out Ivy´s posts regarding the Genovese hierarchy throughout this forum.

So if Mangano is pretty much retired whos the hierarchy for the Genovese? OR one of those things that the fbi most likely knows?

I doubt he is retired. Mangano has been a long member since the 1940's.

I know he is very old but he was the last official underboss anyone knew about. I am sure there is a new one but the genovese family is very quiet. Maybe Ivy has heard who the new underboss is?
