High Octane of course, BUTT, I heard this morning that those wonderful speculators determine that supply will jump over demand. By election day 25 cents less, by end of year - $3.25 a gallon. Except California, they will remain the same as today.

I heard this morning on the radio that some parts of CA (LA area/Brentwood) are seeing OVER $5.00 a gallon. Governor Brown says CA will start using the "winter blend" (whatever the heck that is. A touch of cinnamon) which supposedly will bring cost down.

Winter blend gasoline has more butane. It evaporates in heat a little more quickly than summer blends and thus, all else equal, pollutes more, hence the reason it is usually only used during the winter time.

I've read that due to california's strict anti-pollution laws that the blend of gas thats sold in cali is only sold in cali. So when a shortage hits they can't bring in gas from surrounding states because it's not the blend of gasoline required by law in california.

You may be right. I really don't follow the details of the kinds of gas. However, we do have strict regulations and any car over 4/5 yrs(or so) has to get a smog check every other year in order to renew your registration.

Well,in Texas we have to get our exhaust tested every year if we live in a non-attainment area of the state which I do.

Non-attainment areas...because of my job I have become extremely familiar with such areas in NJ and NYC.

Electric car market
Washington — The electric vehicle industry is in serious trouble, or at least far behind where its proponents had hoped it would be.

On Tuesday, one of the nation's largest electric car battery companies — A123 Systems Inc., which has 1,000 workers and contractors in Michigan — filed for bankruptcy. It has lost $900 million since 2007 amid sluggish electric vehicles sales.

After years of promises that electric cars would end the nation's reliance on imported oil, the bad news has been steady in recent weeks, with reports of lagging sales and projects being pushed back.

Despite high gas prices, established automakers and start-ups are struggling to convince Americans to buy the cars. In Washington, the political consensus in favor of electric vehicles has evaporated.

Lilo, given the rather long commute that most Americans have, the electric car is impractical for most people. It just doesn't have enough range for a round trip. Also, given our highways and the average rate of speed, it could be downright dangerous.

I agree. I hate the things. I suppose they will catch on sooner or later but not right now. When I get something new it's either going to be an F-150 or Yukon or something along those lines.

Back in the late 1980s, I worked for a company that converted the data from mag tape onto microfiche. We had several customers ask us about CDs for data storage, and my boss referred to it as the "bleeding edge of technology" because so many companies had gone bankrupt trying to get a foothold. Considering CDs, DVDs, thumb drives, that's all rather hard to imagine now, isn't it? So, there's hope for electric cars, I guess!

One of my clients was Fujitsu, and I remember one of their IT guys telling me that pioneers are often the guys that end up dead in a ditch with an arrow in their backs!

Gas contiues to drop around here. I got some near Ft. Worth yesterday for $3.34. Around here it was $3.49, but now it's $3.39.

We finally dipped below $3.50. The manipulators are saying the decline is here.

On Geraldo this morning it was stated that gas prices may fall significantly over the next two weeks and even below $3 before the election. I just paid #3.34.

I paid $3.72 and was happy! That's really sad.
