A defention of democracy is very dificult to make. It might very well be the most “natural” and “true” form of governement we’ve established. It stays true to our human nature and those certain freedoms that are endowed to us. I suppose the difference between any democracy and a republic stems from theese feelings because essentially, a democracy allows for more people to have a say in our government by allowing anyone to be eligible to vote or to be voted for. It gives equal opporitunities for all of us, not just an elite group of federalists who control the country.
No doubt, the United States, as set up in the constitution, repects and conforms somewhat my ideas of what a democracy is, however not to the strickest sense of the word. Let’s face it: The federalists had a field day with such a document eliminating some of the states rights, not severly detracting from what I would expect a democracy to be. Sure, it was for the greater good of the infantile nation yet it trampled somewhat on states with larger populations.
The 3/5 compromise is just that; a compromise. It makes the house of reperaseantives, the house who’s membership was based on state populatiopn, the lower house, not instilling on to them as much right as the senate.
Or what of the electorial college, just a check so that us silly, stupid little citizens can’t foul up the whole operation of a presidential election. That’s not true democracy in any sesne of the word in fact.
But regardless, the constiution doesn’t allow the federalists to go away scott free. It doesn’t just keep the federalists in power as history will show later on. It instills to us a sound estabilshment that has suvived somehow till this very day.

I'm on my blessed Thanksgiving break! We've got nine full days off - I don't think I've ever loved Thanksgiving more. Actually, I used up the first of the nine (today) without much production, but I'll call it my "decompression" day, or whatever term it was that George of Seinfeld used in the "Summer of George" episode.

The most exciting part of today was just a few hours ago. I went to put my cat outside, and when I looked out the window to the backyard, I saw what I think was an opossum eating the cat food out of my cat's bowl! My mom had actually seen it a few days before and chased it off, but it sounded so unbelieveable when she told me about it...I believe her now! What a weird animal.

That is great Gina. My son only gets 5 days off and his last day is the 22nd.

Aw, that's no good. Actually, it might be, because I'm going to hate going back to school when the time comes, because I'll be so spoiled, whereas he probably won't mind as much.

I believe that my school giving a week off for Thanksgiving is actually new this year - I think they had to take away other small holidays at other times in the year to make this one happen.

A bee just came flying around my head and when I freaked out sat on my desk. I put my glass over it, thankfully it didn't fly! Phew, then I passed a piece of paper under the glass, turned it over and took the bee out of the office to set it free. Thanks, that was the first thing that came to my mind, but working in an environment that is mostly manly; that behavior only gives men what they are looking for. I've got to stand up for women.

I finally got my 2nd grade from my eariler class this semester. As some may remember I'm doing my master's and my semester's are split into 2 8 week sessions. In the first session I got an 'A' in Managerial Communication and now I just received my grade for Managerial Accounting and I'm so proud that I made an 'A' in there as well! This really helps me because I'm on probation this semester since my test on the entrance exam didn't meet the minimum requirement.

God, Afi, bees are awful. They bite me, and I have allergy. I'm perfectly scared when they fly near. You are so brave!

If you spray the bee with hairspray, they can't fly. They fall helplessly to the ground, and then you can just kill them. Sorry, Afs, I'm not nearly as humane as you are.

Bees aren't that fast as flies anyway, you could kill them without using hairspray. This one sat while I put my glass on it. Anyhoo, they live their lives and they've never hurt me, this one just happened to be trapped in my office so...

Brought up an old memory. It was 1967, I was 16 and a junior counsellor in summer (sleep-away) camp. I was in charge of 10 year olds.

They were outside the bunk, playing. I was inside, making out with my girlfriend. The kids came running in to announce they found a wasp or hornet's nest hanging outside the bunk. I desperately wanted to get back "to business" so I told them to go outside and throw rocks at the nest. The next thing I knew I was taking about a dozen 10 year olds to the infirmary for treatment of stings.

I guess thats why the camp didn't ask me back the following summer.
