i don't think so, in the 1880-1970 period the sicilians emigrated abroad were about 2.000.000, half of them in the states
the majority of people in south america have north and central italian descent, that's one reason because probably the mafia doesn't develop as a domestic crime group so much
but it's also true that the latin and african countries absorbed italians quickly compared to anglosaxon ones
