Monacello's potential testimony against Borgesi, Mob Scene Louis "Bent Finger Lou" Monacello is expected to testify regarding his role as George Borgesi's point man in a book-making and loan-sharking operation. Potential testimony includes alleged boasts by Borgesi claiming responsibility for 11 murders. http://www.philly.com/philly/video/BC1810820076001.html

I think Merlino is going to go for the more old style mafia approach as surely he should be clever enough to realize that his old ways of doing things was how he got what was it? 14 years in prison? But anyway, Yeah Borgesi is probably IMO going to go away in the slammer again for some time, however I don't think the murder charges will stick. There is no recorded evidence and also all they have is the testimony of one guy, who is also not a very good witness didn't the say.
Do you think Merlino will start to build up some crews in Florida whilst also fixing some problems in Philly as well? how much time are these 13 defendants looking at anyway? By that I mean people like Ligambi, Massimino and the other top dogs of the organization.
Tony Soprano : I thought I told you to back off Beansie!
Richie Aprile : I did, Then I put it in drive..

Do you think that the Scarfo era soldiers being released this decade will join the family again?

Ton of heresay in that from bent finger on georgie, not sure how they can wrap that up into the case except from the RICO standpoint, it depends on what the jury will believe, it seems as though he will get time for the gambling charges and a federal sentence on that which is only a state charge, but if the feds claim RICO then Georgie may be done, and the way it is today if he is getting what will basically be a life sentence, due to RICO charges, he may flip majorlly on everyone in Philly....interesting stuff, but sad it comes from that punk

I don't think they will ever flip georgie I value your opinion but why do you say that, he has spent the past decade in federal prison, not sure if he still married but has 2 kids that should be around 16 and 18 and he is definitely going away for at least 5 more....unless he is just instituionalized now....I mean everyone is flipping and saving their butts, if some of this sticks he gets a RICO sentence which means he will die behind bars...a lot is based on heresay from a dirtbag so maybe he rolls the dice and gets off of everything...just from GA the reporting done which may be one-sided, it really seems the government is out to finish them off, and I agree the case is weak, but with the RICO statutes they can take the weak state gambling charge and federalize it and he is done....I dont know the guy, but he will basically have spent 75% of his life in federal prison if convicted, that just seems pretty tough when all around are flipping

Borgesi has yet to flip in over a year, so I doubt he'll change his mind all of a sudden. He knows what hes up against. Plus he has his uncle, brother and cousin all working in the Philly mob (and he's loyal to Merlino). So he has to weight hurting his own family if he flips. You're right on all accounts. He would never rat and let his family hang out to dry in South Philly. George is not a gangster wannabe, he is the real deal. He like many of the old Scarfo regime knew what they were getting into and always accepted the consequences of going in the can. Guys like Bent Finger are wannabes who rat the second a pety pending imprisonment comes at them.

Another Philly wiseguy pleads to racketeering
September 06, 2012|BY WILLIAM BENDER, Daily News Staff Writer
IT COULD BE WORSE for indicted mob boss Joseph "Uncle Joe" Ligambi.
His co-defendants are dropping like flies this summer, but at least they're not singing like birds.
Philadelphia mob associate Louis Barretta, 48, pleaded guilty Wednesday to racketeering conspiracy, after last month's guilty pleas of wiseguys Marty Angelina and Gaeton Lucibello. None will testify against Ligambi and seven others scheduled to go on trial Oct. 9.
The indictment does not include any murders, but the racketeering allegations involving bookmaking, extortion and the operation of illegal video-poker machines could carry significant jail time for Ligambi, 73, and other high-ranking mobsters, if convicted.
Story continues below.
Barretta admitted making high-interest loans and operating a sports-betting business. He will be sentenced in November.
The only mobster who has flipped so far is Louis "Bent Finger Lou" Monacello. He pleaded guilty last year and will testify for the prosecution.
