who do you think has more power in a family, underboss or consigliere????

Well the underboss is tue boss when the boss isnt there but many charts hold the consig out beside the boss ajd thr underboss under the both of them

It depends imo there's been times when the Underboss has merely been a lieutenant to the boss for instance Sammy Gravano. There's also been times the Underboss has directly controlled crews like Delacrocce controlling crews in Manhattan. There was also the rare case of Casso who was more like a street boss.

The Consigliere position has also greatly changed it seems. It seems that in the 30s,40s the Consigliere was more like an advisor but now it's just an extra lieutenant .

Actually, except for the Castellano/Dellacroce/Gallo set up, the underboss is usually the boss´s closest confidant, his alter ego and the one who is handpicked by the boss to serve as his second. The consigliere is elected by all the members of the Family and acts as an advisor to all of them. Because of the consigliere´s popularity with the troops, and the fact that a boss cannot remove him from his position unless the captains demands it, his power can reach enormous proportions.

So to answer this topic´s question, it depends on the consigliere´s ability or skill to maintain the member´s confidence in him. If he´s not able to do that, the underboss, because of his closeness to the boss, will surely outpower him.

But nowadays Hairy, a Consigliere wont be as powerful since being elected isnt done anymore, its just another old position which is there to fill in the ranks.

Agreed i think it all depends on the consigliere/underbosses relationship with the boss .

I don't have the time to spare right now, but the best way to look at this would be to look at real world figures. Past Gravano and Dellacroce, all the other mob administration members throughout the years, and then conclude.

Yes. If the functions of the consigliere, and the traditions with regards to the position, has been lost the last 20 or 30 years (and I do believe they have) then the underboss position is more powerful today.
