how many crews do you think the genovese family have? And since they probably have a ruling panel, who do you think are the highest ranking guys?? ' The Genovese Family is by far the biggest. I would guess, counting Jersey and Florida, maybe 18 crews. The highest members serve on a ruling panel run most likely by Liborio Bellomo, Venero Mangano, Dominick Cirillo, Ernie Muscarella, and Larry Dentico. But we can't know for sure. That Family is very secretive. As Sonny Black put it- we won't know 20 maybe 50 years from now what was really going on now.

Maybe 2ofthe the reasons the genovese are so powerful n secretive is there better at spreading money around and looking out for members families when there locked up I think there's more to it than that, although being secretive is certainly a factor. Wanna know what I think? In my opinion the reason they're the most powerful today is because they were the most powerful yesterday. There's an old saying: Nothing succeeds like success. The Genovese have it. The Genovese keep it. In business, when you've been out front for so long, you tend to stay out front. It's not mutually exclusive to the street. I hate to use this analogy for fear of coming off like a douchebag fanboy, which all of the senior posters here know that I'm not, but the Genovese family are like the Yankees organization. They're always competitive because they've always been competitive.

There are a number of long-acting Captains who are out of prison and active in the Genovese Family. I recently read that even these captains do not truly know who is making executive decisions. I am just brainstorming here, but there is a chance that this strategy is used to insulate the leadership from potential RICO indictments. A RICO case can only be brought when two or more predicate crimes (of which there are many listed in the statute) are committed. If the government has proof of these crimes, then people at the top of the Genovese Family (the "enterprise" pursuant to statutory language) can be held liable criminally and civilly. If members of the Genovese administration can argue that there is no actual enterprise and these Captains were committing the predicate acts on their own accord, the government's RICO case falls apart. Without knowledge of who is at the top of the Genovese hierarchy, any wiretap evidence will not prove beyond a reasonable doubt who the Boss, Underboss and Consigliere actually are...because the Captains simply do not know.
I think there is a good chance that the Capos leave cash at drop-off locations so that they are left unaware of who they are kicking up to. Furthermore, when orders come down, they likley are done through notes left at similar places without any signature or name attached.
For this reason - and this sucks for those of us interested in this stuff - we likely will never know who runs the Genovese family anymore (forget 20-50 years). The family is composed of old-timers who have been around for the Commission Case and many other RICO indictments and understand the risks posed when upper-echelon guys are affiliated with the criminal activity.
Right now, we know that people such as Bellomo, Leo, Cirillo, Mangano, Dentico are likley running things because of the fact that they have been around and were arrested when they were younger (evidence of their role in the family came out in those trials). However, once these guys go - and Cirillo/Mangano/Dentico are very much near their ends - it will be nearly impossible to tell who else comprises the family's administration. My guess is that Barney has been running things since Chin passed away. Beyond that, our knowledge of the Genovese family structure has likely hit a brick wall.
Just my 2 cents.

its discipline. you lie you die. you cant lie to your skip.period. the westside has a standing rule. no drugs. period. although it isnt followed out to the 't',it is still a rule. which says more than the other families can. they killed what? 3 captains in 15-20 years? you fuck up, you die.they got a way of passing down orders that doesnt reveal who is giving them. the captains are guys who deserve to be there. not guys like mike uvino in the colombos knocking around guys himself. they had signs for different people. eg.[the chin]. you dont drop names, you plea out, take a fine, you get taken care of in prison. its dicipline. Spot-on. Right now, we know that people such as Bellomo, Leo, Cirillo, Mangano, Dentico are likley running things because of the fact that they have been around and were arrested when they were younger (evidence of their role in the family came out in those trials). I'll go along with that, although I've heard---and I have no reason to doubt---that Dentico and Mangano are both already retired for the most part. As was Matty when he died. But if people want to bring them envelopes for being warm and cuddly old men, they ain't gonna turn them away . My guess is that Barney has been running things since Chin passed away. If he's not acting boss already, he will be, assuming that he can stay out of jail. He doesn't have the bullseye on him that a Gotti had, or even the one that Basciano painted on his back, but it's there. The Feds resent the mail fraud plea they had to give him a few years ago. And when the Feds resent something, it doesn't soon go away. Time will tell .

As much as they are considered secretive and impossible to figure out, lack of known FBI investigations the last few years may simply be why they are considered this way. We know that the Family was led by a ruling panel back in mid 2000s and a similar ruling panel may still be in place. The problem is, we don´t know for sure who sits on it. The ones who are members of this ruling panel, may be more akin to responsibility for the sake of the Family, more so than ever before, and not tainted by greed for money and power. We know that Gigante implemented a more "liberal" way of kicking up to him, letting the captains keep a large chunk of the money. This way of running the Family may still be the name of the game. "Liberal" may be a wrong word to use, because this way of running a Family was done by the bosses early on. But it´s a total contrast to Gotti´s "feed-my-ego" and "feed-my-thousands-of-dollars-a-day-gambling-habit" way of running things.
Are there informants within the Genoveses today? I´m sure there are. Either the feds, for some reason, aren´t able to put a case together against the top guys at the moment, or they are brewing and cooking on something real big, waiting to strike when the right moment comes along. Something massive. And perhaps it my come faster and sooner than most of us expect. As a fellow mob watcher, I hope it´s the latter.
