Matty always had a thing for restaurants. It's true that he owned Umberto's, but it should be noted that the original location---where Gallo was shot---was at Hester and Mulberry Streets. The current location is at Mulberry and Broome Streets, and it's still run by Matty's nephew. Matty also owned the more upscale SPQR on Mulberry Street. And he was usually present at his Little Italy restaurants, even though the crowds were almost always touristy (read: legitimate).

Matty's home base was indeed Mulberry Street, but his power was such that it extended elsewhere, right up through the Bronx and into Westchester; especially Yonkers, where I remember he owned a couple restaurants and trucking companies. But that was many years ago.
