La Traviata is one of my favorites. I agree, nothing can compare with the majesty of the Met. Just seeing the chandeliers rise as the lights dim is worth the price of admission. However, it is ridiculously expensive, forget about tolls and parking! I would love an alternative, but I guess being so close to the city, they don't bother here. I've never seen it advertised.
