When I was in high school, believe it or not, Algebra was NOT a required course, let alone calculus. You could take Algebra, but it wasn't required. You had general math, accounting, business math, and probably a couple more choices that I can't think of now.
Both my girls "had" to take Algebra in Middle School and High School. As you can imagine, I was of no help solving their math problems at that point.
I always hated math, and even now, although I'd like to think I know the basics, I am not good at it.

I always preferred English and even Literature to a degree and Civics, which is now Social Studies I believe. I also didn't mind Government.
