I remember Edith Head. Her name was credited in many a movie. Don't know that I know what she looked like though I think she wore big hats all the time. smile

I haven't either Bam.

Btw, has any of the Harry Potter movies ever won anything? Seems like they always are up for one thing or another but never win.

She served as the visual inspiration for Edna Mole in THE INCREDIBLES.

EDIT - Another pro-movie montage. Funny Sandler picked DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, which might be my pick for worst 007 movie.

Damn the DEADLINE website people are snarky cruel with their blogging.

Quote:
Who wants to be in the middle of a J-Lo-Cameron Diaz sandwich? It’s wasted on the zillion men watching the Oscars. All gay, they’d rather fix both actresses’ hair.

...I'm not gay. I want to be in the middle of that cougar sandwich.

EDIT - Deadline blog, if you want to follow it. http://www.deadline.com/2012/02/advisory-nikki-finke-live-snarking-oscars/

I don't mind the movie montages. They had some very memorable scenes. As far as I'm concerned, they can cut the song & dance routines. Although, Crystal's intro wasn't bad cause it was funny.

More drinks increase risk of alcohol poisoning.

Have a drink geoff!

EDIT - I'm surprised the Iranian/Israeli nominees for Foreign Picture haven't bombed each other in the seats yet.

Btw, there is a short documentary up called "God Is Bigger Than Elvis." Never heard of it til recently but it is about one of Elvis' co-stars who became a nun and the movie is about her life in the convent. Her name is Dolores Hart and she was in Loving You & King Creole. As an Elvis fan, I thought I'd mention it.

Personally I was hoping McCarthy would win. (Funny women are scarce at the Oscars.)

Off-topic, but as somebody who actually saw THE ARTIST, it was pretty good. Surprisingly for a movie that got a backlash because it's black & white and silent, it's actually mainstream accessible and yet folks won't give it a chance.

If it wins, it'll be the lowest grossing winner ever. (Don't hold that against it.)

On a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being best),how would you rate The Artist. I can't say it seems appealing to me. I likely won't go to a movie to see it, but may catch it on HBO or something.

Between 7 and 8. Probably 7 if push comes to shove. Quite decent. If anything I'm surprised the Oscars embraced it because you know they usually love their social commentary hammer to the skull pictures, that they gotta have "meaning" or something.

Anyway, give it a chance. I wouldn't call it a challenging picture. Not at all.

Now TREE OF LIFE, that's challenging. Either you're overwhelmed by it emotionally by the baggage you bring to that picture, or you think it's pretentious hooey of gooey. I loved it, but I can't blame those that don't.

I wonder if Deadline will crack gay jokes at Bradley Cooper as almost everybody else does?

I should note that A SEPARATION, the Iranian movie which won the Foreign Picture Oscar, was celebrated at film festivals world-wide...except in Iran, where it's been effectively banished. A movie which questions the theocratical religious/political approach (or short, Iranian Santorum approach) to humanity...unacceptable to the Mullahs.

Not seen it, but my usual cinemaphile cohorts love it. So it can't be a total waste of time.

Fincher not at the Oscars? I love his movies and respect him, but he's a notorious sore loser.

DRIVE should've gotten more nods. Damn good picture.
