I knew the 12 in Irishman12 had to stand for something!! Now we know his age. Don't worry, Irish, your voice will change soon!! Must be some kind of genius or something, going to college at 12.

Haha, I used to be just like you when I was at school. 17 and 20 isn't such a big difference, women mature at an earlier age than guys and this is just natural. There was a few years age gap between my parents and they were married at 18 and 20, Mother, Father respectively.

Now I think it'd only be a problem if the girl was under 16, that's it. Otherwise, she's legal and it's her choice.

I honestly have no problem with it if they were friends before hand for a while and then started dating. But when it is something like a guy just doing something in his everyday life and sees a girl (sorry bogey but I saw your picture and you don't pass for 20/21) that he KNEW was not his age and tries to get a date with her- that annoys me.

I also don't believe the word "drinking" should come up until you've been dating a while.

Now, why is it, if Bogey was 18 it wouldn't seem like such a difference? Yet, I am sure if my 17 year old daughter wanted to date a 20 year old, I'd have concerns too. But like Turi says girls do mature faster, and it really does depend on the maturity level.

I agree that girls mature faster but sometimes (Hides behind couch) they can be very ignorant when it comes to older guys. (sorry thats my feelings) I think girls will do almost ANYTHING as long as this "great older guy" is seen with her.

Also like I said before, the first question I would want to ask him is why does he need to go after a 17/18 year old girl? Why can't he find someone his own age to date. There are only 2 answers to that: 1) he is a complete moron 2) he is only after sex, and can get it easier with a younger girl.

Fair enough, I hate guys who actually wait and hang around schools in their cars waiting to pick up younger girls. That's wrong. But in social settings where people meet is cool.

I don't get the problem with this. What's wrong with asking? Surely that's better than assuming she already drinks and tries to poor gallons down her throat.

Maybe it's different here and with our legal age limit to consume alcohol being 18 it could have an effect. My first date with someone usually goes along the lines of going for a drink first. Alright I'm older but not THAT much.

turi, age could be a difference. I also don't think the word "drinking" and "going out for a drink" is the same thing.
I think "going out for a drink" is going to an upscale place and say getting a glass of something and thats it. "Drinking" on the other hand is getting drunk and not knowing where you are. (Those are my definitions)

Also what annoyed me about him is that she said he asked 3 TIMES if she drinks. So you know that it is something that was already on his mind.

Having only daughters, maybe I'd feel differently with a son, I don't know. But I never liked it if my daughter, on a first date with someone, would say, "I'm gonna meet him at wherever. I'd always say, "No, if he wants to date you, he can come to the door and pick you up and meet me." Ha ha maybe old fashioned, but I insisted on it. This of course was when they were teenagers, but even after they were out of school and at home, they usually had no problem with their dates meeting me. I was lucky in that respect.

With the kinds of guys I see around campus everyday, I always wonder how in the world women can date those type of people and ultimately reproduce.

I'm with you TIS My daughters friend had to come in the house first and meet me and my husband. And we had to know exactly where they were they were going. And I insisted that he walk her up to the door when they got home instead of just dropping her off and leaving.

As the 3rd mother here of a daughter I concur with Mig and TIS. If they don't respect the parents enough to at least come to the door and say hi how much respect are they gonna show your daughter. I never had the problem with my daughter. She knows I give her enough space to make her decisions because I feel there should be mutual respect between parent and child. She also knows if she did anything stupid I'd kick her ass.

BTW...I don't care how legal it is if some 20 year old asked my daughter to drink when she was 17 he'll be doing all his eating through a feeding tube.

Hey guys! I'm here.. and safe.. No need to send out the search parties.

My friend came and got me, and picked Jamie and his friend up downtown.. then our friend Derek called, and wanted us to go to Eat N Park (a restaurant).. so we did. We get there, but Derek's not there yet. So we wait around for them.. and I see Derek coming.. then I see our other friend Skozio coming.. and THEN I see Josh, my ex boyfriend coming. Talk about awkward. So we all got a table (in the smoking section.. because Josh smokes.. and it makes me mad.. Jamie doesnt smoke ) But Josh never smoked around me.. and he still didn't here. But I sat by Jamie.. and Josh sat at the end and pouted. We could only stay for like half an hour, because I had to be home by 11.. (school night).. they dropped me off at my house, and he got a good-bye hug. No kiss.. No sex. Just a hug lol

By the way guys, I found out that he's not quite 20. He'll turn 20 in 4 months.. (in March)... And I turn 18 in March. So really we're only 2 years apart, not 3.

Thanks everybody for the encouragement... if anything else happens, I'll be sure to post it here. But I won't be posting until probably later tonight.. or late Sunday. (I'm going on a trip to Charleston Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon)

Just remember the only thing age proves is that he was born before you, it proves NOTHING about what kind of Man he is (or lack there of), maturity level, or how well he will treat you.

(Totally unrelated)-- I hate the sound of breaking glass! Not only is it a generally annoying sound, like nails on a chalkboard, but it also represents a mess to clean up, almost inevitably.

It is quite comical in a restaurant though. The sound is not that bad- AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO CLEAN IT UP

Oh, and everyone turns and looks for a guilty-looking waiter or busboy, or they all look at one particular rowdy and annoying 5-year-old who's been getting on everyone's nerves, to see if it was him... hahaha

Yeah, he was a gentleman about it.. in fact, I was the one who asked for the hug, not him. And while we were at the restaurant, he didn't try to hold my hand or anything. I was actually a little disappointed. Nothing major happened.. Our legs were touching... thats it.
