A drunk rammed his car into a rescue helicopter that was on the scene of an earlier DUI accident. He told the state trooper who arrested him: "Why was the helicopter flying so low?" Ha ha ha ha ha! What a moron! AND, how freekin' embarrassing...to ram into a helicopter?? You have some doozies in your neck of the woods TB. TIS

Whippets? Demi Moore gets high on whippets? What is she 12? You're thinking of Ashton.

I'm in South Florida for a couple of weeks. I've found that there are as many nut-cases here as in my home town. This is from yesterday's Miami Herald, reporting on a televised melee among accusers involved in the "toxic tush case, in which women were injected with a nearly lethal concoction of household chemicals to enhance their derrieres." "Corey Eubanks said he was attacked by the family of Shaquanda Brown during a taping of the Cristina Show on Telemundo Wednesday night. Brown, who was present at the show with her family, was a victim of an illegal 'pumping party' where, investigators say, a concoction including Fix-a-Flat and Super Glue were injected for butt-enhancement." Another story on the same page was headlined: "Couple's Spat Ends with Hamster Tossed from 3rd-Floor Balcony" As TIS once said of one of my earlier posts: "You can't make this stuff up."

Lilo, Beautiful pictures. What great architecture/art. It's been so many years since I've been to Detroit but I do remember a few occasions going to at least one of the many cathedrals there. I could easily go as a tourist and see things again for the first time. Thanks TIS

Very nice photos, Lilo. Media do not portray Detroit as a city with anything going for it. Lilo, Beautiful pictures. What great architecture/art. I could easily go as a tourist and see things again for the first time. Thanks TIS Yup. Detroit has a lot of issues and is quite unsafe. But there is also beauty and grace to be found if you know where to look. I love Art Deco and mosaic and had I the funds I would love to build myself a home that combined both.

Long Elmore Leonard Article Peter Leonard knows the exact moment that he wanted his father Elmore Leonard's job. It was after a long, tense day at the ad agency, dressed in a suit, making pitches to a room of bored suits. Peter had gone over to his father's house to find the eminent crime writer lounging around dressed in a black Nine Inch Nails T-shirt, jeans and sandals. "I said, I have to have a job like this."
And so a second generation of Leonards went into mystery/crime writing.
The elder Leonard is, of course, the acknowledged master of the genre after 44 novels ("Swag," "Get Shorty," "Killshot," "LaBrava"), countless screenplays, novellas and short stories in a writing career that spans 60 years. His finely honed sentences can sound as flinty/poetic as Hemingway or as hard-boiled as Raymond Chandler. His ear for the way people talk — or should — is peerless.
Peter Leonard was talking about his career epiphany in a meeting room in the basement of the Baldwin Library in Birmingham, appearing with his father at a standing-room-only dual book signing Jan. 19. (Peter's latest: "Voices of the Dead.")
It was a rare appearance, one of only three the elder Leonard did to celebrate the release of his latest novel, his 45th, "Raylan: A Novel" (William Morrow, $26.99). The book makes a splashy debut Sunday at No. 7 on the New York Times best-seller list.
A longtime Bloomfield Village resident, Leonard could have moved to Hollywood several times over, he has so many fans and friends there. But he stayed in Detroit — why? "I like it," Leonard said. "Great music … lot of poverty. I wouldn't move anywhere else. Now, it's too late. I'd never be able to drive in San Francisco or Los Angeles."
The new novel, "Raylan," and the success of the hit FX series "Justified," in which actor Timothy Olyphant plays coal-miner-turned-U.S. marshal Raylan Givens, marks yet another career high for the author. "Justified" took the character of Givens from an earlier Leonard novella, "Fire in the Hole" (2000).... .

I heard on the radio this morning that Miami is considered the most miserable city in which to live. Discontent for the beach is just a trick of the rich to keep the poor without a tan . In short, that report is hogwash, MC .

I was in Florida 3 time sin my life BUT the last time was in the 70's. I've been to Ft. Lauderdale, Miami,Palm Beach. At that time, they seemed nice (at least from a tourist view). I like that their beaches are so close to the hotels/street. It's not a huge walking distance to get to the water if I remember correctly. In general, a definite feel than a California Beach IMHO. I was in Orland FLa (if that's the city Disneyworld is in) also. TIS

I guess he really was hot for teacher Being a guy is tough because the male brain is clogged by thoughts of sex most of his life, a 56-year-old student wrote in an assignment at Oakland University that has since led to his suspension.
In a journal entry inspired by the Van Halen rock band song "Hot for Teacher," Joseph Corlett described how his sexual thoughts have waned from 100 to 20 a day, but he is still attracted to numerous college instructors. He described the 50-year-old OU English lecturer who assigned him to keep the journal and later read it.
"Tall, blond, stacked, skirt, heels, fingernails, smart, articulate, smile," he wrote. "I'm toast, but I stay."
Now Corlett, a Lake Orion resident, has been suspended for three semesters at OU, barred from campus and required to undergo sensitivity counseling — even though his instructor told him that no material was off limits in the journal he was assigned to keep for his Advanced Critical Writing class.
But he is fighting back and appealing the decision to protect his First Amendment rights.
"How can the university's attorneys not know that this is unconstitutional?" said Corlett, who has been married for 30 years. "They have to do the right thing and drop this. They are on the wrong side of the Constitution."
