Goalie declines White House Invite

Washington — President Obama saluted the Boston Bruins on Monday for their 2011 Stanley Cup championship, citing the city's run of professional team championships in recent years.

There was one notable no-show, however. Goalie Tim Thomas, the Davison native who was the playoff MVP last year, chose not to attend the event, a team spokesman said.

Reports say he opted long ago to skip the event, citing political differences with Obama. He was planning to address his absence Monday night on Facebook.

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli told Yahoo! Sports he had tried to convince Thomas to attend, but the goalie wouldn't budge.

"I can require someone to attend a team event," Chiarelli told Yahoo! Sports. "If they don't, I can suspend him. But I'm not going to suspend Tim. Whatever his position is isn't representative of the Boston Bruins or my own. But I'm not going to suspend him."

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."
Winter is Coming

Now this is the Law of the Jungle—as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.
